Sebenza 21 with a Wicked Edge or send it to CRK for a refresh?

I have not been around for awhile. My CRK collection is in my safe hopefully gaining in value.
But I have a friend that I bought a large Sebenza 21 off here.

I also found him here a small Sebenza 21 and he's always perferred a small.
After I mentioned to him I just saw a large that was sold on Ebay for $610.

He asked me if I thought he was better off first sending it in for a CRK refresh, rather than selling it with the WE he put on it.

I said my thinking would be that it might command more with a factory edge even though it's not the original edge!

Thoughts?
Thx

I think you're right that coming straight from CRK would win more hearts and minds.

Thanks for that quick reply Blues. Even though both of us can put on a super sharp mirrored WE edge on any of our knives . . . And even though the CK factory edges are put on with a belt grinder, my thinking was a true CRK afficionado would want the factory edge.

If it’s been sharpened, sending it back for sharpening is kind of a waste of blade life, it’s a used knife either way so just sell it as so.
Thanks for that opinion, Jsega

No problem. Watching the CRK exchange, I’ve found that knives that are used but still in great condition don’t take that bad of a hit at all. If the edge appears to be well done and not a hack job I don’t think there’s much to worry about and with the complaints of how CRK edges aren’t always the greatest, it may even be a bonus for someone who’s interested in it.

If it’s a well done wicked edge it’s superior to any sharpening coming out off CRK. I don’t think it’d change the pricing much on the exchange.

This is just one man's opinion. If the edge is sharpened nicely by the owner, it should be fine. Scratches and dings created by the owner can reduce the price significantly. So if the knife has these issues, it's better to send it to the mothership for a spa treatment.

Depends on what the edge looks like. If it looks fine, I would sell it as is. Sending it back is not free, there is postage and insurance both ways and always the chance of loss. If it looks funky send it in. Either way it is still a knife that had been sharpened.
Also sometimes the CRK Sharpening is not the greatest.

Well, his other choice is he sends it in for the factory freshen and he can offer the buyer a fresh Wicked Edge on it if that's what they would prefer. I was never a fan of the factory edge and why I learned to do my own edges. Does CRK still sand blast the scales for free? I have plenty of kitchen knives to keep my WE sharpening hobby going plus another 10 in the drawer and then 20 folders.
