How could we get together and ask CRK to start making Sebenza's with Spirograph Blades again?
It isn't as if Devin Thomas no longer makes the steel, it says he does right on his page: http://www.devinthomas.com/damascusSteel.cfm
From what little I know, this was the most popular type of Damascus CRK ever offered.
I can't imagine any type of manufacturing reason why they stopped using it. It's even priced the same as the other types of Damascus that use the same type of steel.
I know other companies have limited, or temporarily stopped production of a top seller to help reduce inventory of ther less popular products, but I've never know any to just plain quit making their #1 product.

CRK discontinued Spirograph last year supposedly due to an etching issue. I really doubt that they will bring it back, but there is always a possibility.
I'm personally fine with the basketweave replacement.

I'd be happy if they went back to offering non-stainless damascus occasionally in decent sized production runs. Remember the good stuff with nice dark swirls? This stainless stuff just looks grey and washed out to me. I know it makes for good "user" blades and I appreciate that. Still, it would be a nice option to have the old stuff available/accessible.

I can't really pipe up because I've never owned ANY CRK damascus Sebenza, but I will say that I agree about the SS stuff in general. To me "real" damascus is made from carbon steel. The other stuff looks nice but it's just not the same. The only way I'll be buying a damascus Sebenza is if I can find a nice older one.

Not to add any fire here.. But DT SS Damascus is very good for EDC use, not just to look pretty. The use of AEB-L and 304 steels just make it that much better for corrosion. It still holds a great edge and sharpens relatively easily. I own and use his steel on different knives including the Sebenza and it has always performed very well, for me anyhow.
As far as the lighter color of the steel, it depends how the blade was first finished. To get a "brighter" pattern the blade has to be polished, etched, re polished, etched. The more times this is done the higher contrasting patterns will stand out.
