I know that there are a few threads in this forum regarding first impressions of new knife acquisitions, but since I enjoy reading them myself I thought I might write a brief post about my new Sebenza 25.
Recently I had posted in this forum that I had picked up a couple of CRKs after having had sold what I had from my collection over a year ago to get funds for our home. I have been carrying both of them interchangeably for a solid month and couldn't be more pleased with them. They are the two pictured below and I enjoy the Sebenza 21 and Umnumzaan equally, as each have amazing qualities.
When I read that the Sebenza 25 is more or less a blend of features of both the Sebenza and Umnumzaan my curiosity was piqued. Of course, like many here on Bladeforums I read every post and watched every review video on Youtube I could find.
I have been checking different dealers for any in stock for awhile. I finally found some in stock and got really excited. Well, each year for our wedding anniversary, my wife and I get to pick a small gift to get for ourselves. This is in addition to what we buy each other. We usually don't spend a lot and we keep the amount to less than $100. I had just sold a DSLR I was no longer using and used those funds plus the small amount we spend on our anniversary gifts to buy a new CRK.
It just arrived and I couldn't be more pleased. It came in the newer packaging. The birthdate is July 31, 2013. The action is very smooth and feels very similar to my Sebenza 21. The detent is strong, but not as strong as some of the early video reviews I had watched. Lockup is as is expected from CRKs - solid and early. The finger grooves fit my hand very well. I have medium size hands and was wondering how it would feel. Right away I noticed it seems to be heavier than both my 21 and Umnumzaan. It feels very substantial in hand and like a tank. The jimping is very good. I am leaving the lanyard on for a little bit to give it a fair shot. Usually I remove lanyards right away.
I feel that this knife will get a lot of carry time. I know that it is new and that there is this excitement that goes along with new knives. Since it is part of my anniversary gift for this year, it will be sentimental to me as well.
This sub-forum is a great place and I appreciate the helpfulness of everyone here and am glad to be a part of it.
Thanks!
