Sebenza 25 Pivot Noise

I just today received my first Sebenza 25 that I purchased here off of the forums. What a beast! A beautiful knife. The pivot is smooth and solid, though I notice a strange sound coming from the pivot throughout the blade's entire range of motion. Almost like saran wrap rubbing together. Is this normal? Has anyone come across this? Perhaps I should just take it apart to clean and grease it?

Thanks!

Sounds like the crk grease. Sometimes it makes a "lapping" sound. Someone might have added a little too much...this is my guess.

Use a strong light and try to lure that insect out of your ear ! :)

No, not normal. If proficient, take it apart, if not contact Reeve's knife shop. Or, ignore it.

If you look at the top of he knife toward the pivot, you should see the washers on both sides. If you see grease, it's over greased. When I first took my 25 apart, I could hardly tell it was greased from the factory. It doesn't take much grease to make it smooth. I would guess also that is the problem.

Sounds to me like some weird grease was used. Maybe a wax-based lube, or something that has gone gooey and lost its lubricity. I'd take it down and clean it and put new grease, or even oil in there to see if the problem continues.

This is no longer a problem, because I lost the knife :(

Well, it's good to hear that probelm with the noise of the pivot got cleared up. :p Sorry you lost your knife, what happened exactly ? Stolen, legely stolen, dropped somewhere ? I hope it turnes up.

Lost it while biking around town. It must have gotten jostled out of my pocket. Retraced my steps for hours, and put up an ad on craigslist, and maybe it fell out in the apt. before I left, but I've said my goodbyes.
