What is the notch past the jimping and the thumb studs for? I don't mind it as I am on my second 25. Just curious.

There has been much debate on why that notch is there, and varied opinions. Some like it, some do not.

The last I heard, no one has called CRK to get a definitive answer, but that might have changed by now.

Myself, I think it is simply a design element. And I like it, I think it adds a little aesthetically.

What is your opinion? If if were there just for looks, do you like it, or would you like it left out?

Congrats on your 25, BTW, it's a great knife. I EDC a lefty micarta 25.

I also think it is design. I have heard a few different theories which sound fishy to me (to feel blade dimensions in the dark, to create a transition point between jimping and curved spine...)

I have tried striking a ferro-rod with it, and it worked ok but the edges are not cut sharp enough to really throw sparks, so I don't think that is it either.

But I like it on the 25 and the Inkosi. If there is a definite purpose for it, I would be interested in learning what it is.

Talked to Anne Reeve and she told me that it's nothing more than cosmetic, a marker between the jimping and the round spine.

The Prototype does not have that notch.
I like the notch, just another feature that makes it a 25.

Rather than the notch (if it doesn't serve any purpose), I would rather have thumb studs on both sides.

My 0.02 cents.
