Hey all!

I recently bought a lightly used 25. I was curious if there is anywhere to purchase additional washers? I have been unsuccessful in finding them anywhere. When I received it I did a deep clean/ lube and I noticed one of the washers had a dark stain/ slight buildup on both sides of it and I am worried it may be affecting its smoothness. This is the washer that does not have the small tab to keep it in place. It almost appears as though it has been rubbing up against the titanium on both sides... Maybe it was flipped a couple times in the past.

I have not reached out to CRK and I am sure they would oblige but curious if I can take care of it on my own first. I doubt it's actually affecting the knife but I would feel much better knowing I had fresh washers in there!

Thanks for any info.

Hi, I was told CRK will not send out washers, so you would have to send it in for them to replace the washers.
The washers on my umnumzaan are the same way and I don't think it effects the smoothness any.

No, they will not send out washers. But may I offer some advice before you send it back? This is what I have done, and it works beautifully...
Use a soft piece of leather, like you'd find on the inside of a RedWing boot, the inner side of a belt, etc. and some polishing/rubbing compound. Put a dab on the leather, and using the tip of your index finger, or thumb when your finger gets tired, and rub the washer lightly into the leather in a tight circular motion. Do this for about a minute or two, with light pressure. Your washers will turn out to be mirror polished in no time! And you aren't removing any metal, so no need to worry about making them any thinner. Use your lube of choice (personally I use and swear by Nano Oil) and re-assemble the knife. It will be smooth as glass! In fact, I do this every so often, just to keep them polished. I know, I'm probably over doing it, but I just get a certain satisfaction out of it knowing my knife is ALWAYS in top perfect working condition. My 25 is so smooth that when I hold it horizontally, with the blade open, I can press in the lock bar and the blade will swing down by gravity.Try it. What do you have to lose? Worst case scenario is send it back in and they will replace them.

Lonny that is some good advice. Appreciate it! I have been using blue lube or rem oil. Where is a good place to buy nano oil? I see some on amazon but it's not cheap! If you have a recommended brand and place to purchase I would like to hear it. Also I know it comes in different weights. Which one do you use?

Thanks!

IMHO/IME/YMMV...the only lube worth using on CRK folders is the grease they sell...I would not use oil on a CRK folder. As I said, though, YMMV.

I am going to experiment with different lubes and will try a fresh application of the CRK grease at some point. I hear less is more when applying it. I received it with the grease on it. It was born 11/13 so the application can not be to long ago. It was very stiff and had a gritty feeling. Once I changed it to blue lube it made a world of difference. I am not looking for it to fly open... but I do prefer a smooth fluid motion.

They do get smoother! My 25 was stiff when I first got it so I took it apart, cleaned it real well and greased it. Loosened the pivot screw a bit and after braking the edge on the detent hole and toughening up my thumb a bit (my first CRK) it is perfect! In fact the 25 is smoother and easier to deploy than the new 21 I have. I'm sure the 21 will get smoother but right now the 25 has it beat.

I have read on here that Finish Line Extreme Fluoro Grease is the same thing Chris Reeve uses. Not sure if it's true but I purchased some and used it. Seems to work just fine and it's a lot cheaper. Got 20g for less than 12 bucks.

FInish Line with Dupont makes a flourinated grease as well that yields 4 times the amount, gives you a better applicator and is $1 cheaper on Amazon. CRK's grease isn't special, it's just expensive. As for the washers, that discoloration is normal on any I've seen unless the washers were polished on a strop or with high grit wetsand paper or a really really well used knife.

edit... didn't notice the post above me. sorry for redundancy but I've been using it for a year and it's perfect.

I've used Finish Line and it does seem to be the same as the new CRK grease. Given the amounts involved, cost really doesn't need to be a factor. I have a stockpile of the old CRK grease, which I think worked a little better, and came in those needle-nose syringe applicators that are better than any similar applicators I've used. Again, YMMV. I've been saving the syringes as I empty them and will refill them when I run out.

This is where the 2 opinions cross lines here. Both lubes are excellent, but I personally find that the grease makes too much friction for MY liking. The Nano Oil makes it slicker in my opinion. The blade doesn't just "fly out", because the lock bar still provides enough pressure to make it a fluidic action. Nano Oil IS high, granted. But that little bottle will last you a few years, no doubt. It seems I've barely even put a dent in mine, and I use for my guns, too. You don't have to use very much, either. I believe it's the "10W" version you want, and amazon, or Nano Oil's website it caosts the same, about 17-18 bucks. But like I said, it will last a LONG time. To me, it's the best 18 bucks I ever spent.

Definitely agree on the cost issue. :D Unless you're way overlubricating your knives, cost is just not an issue.

Inside of a leather belt without any compound works just as well, we'll not as good but still works.

If you want to shine up your washers, put some tabasco on them. Believe it or not, that stuff cleans the corosion away. If you don't belive it works, put a few drop on a dirty penny, let it sit awhile, then wipe it off.

It does clean the corrosion away, just as vinegar would (it's what's in the Tabasco), but it won't polish them, which is what makes all the difference. Just try it, polish your washers lightly, and I'd like to hear your results. I'm positive you'll be impressed..

Luckily there was no corrosion on the washers. I just did a fresh clean and polished them on some leather. Did not use any polishing compound. I also applied a fresh application of CRK grease since I've tried rem oil and blue lube already. Its buttery smooth! Very happy with its performance. Thanks for the tips everyone. I will for sure pick up some nano oil and try that in the future.

That's good to hear!! I knew you'd be happy with it. I still take mine out from time to time and polish them again. It only takes a couple minutes anyways, so why not (plus, I often have a little down time at work, so it gives something to do). I'm always pleased with the results.. I'm glad things worked out for you!
