Should I carry and use this?

I am very lucky and got this for Christmas. It is #3 of the first 31, Sebenza 31s, to have ever been made. Box is signed. I have some very nice knives all of which are carried and used and I have told myself that I will never have a "safe queen". This one has me second guessing that. Am I a complete idiot if I carry and use this one?

I think that certainly qualifies for safe-queen status. If I were a little unsure if I wanted to put such a unique knife in daily rotation, I might give it a few months to think about it. It’ll always have its pedigree whether used or not; do what makes you happy. If you want to preserve its future value, sock it away. Perhaps the gifter knew you’d enjoy using it!

They might just want to torture me, lol!

That’s a special piece there! I would go with not using it if you have another 31. However, the thing is you can always send it in for a spa service in 10-20. It’s all about what makes you happy like mentioned above. If using it would bring you joy, give that ol girl some love and make it your own. If having a “pristine collector” is of value to you I say keep it cherry. Congrats on the gift!

Congrats on receiving such an awesome gift! It’s a special knife to have in your collection. Personally, I wouldn’t carry and use it unless there was no other option.
I have one of them (#29), and it always makes me smile thinking of the hours I spent in line waiting for the doors to open on the first morning of that Blade Show, casually chatting and making new friends who were also waiting, then the purposeful beeline straight to the CRK booth, then the sheer panic-inducing wait for my turn as I watched all the new 31’s disappearing one by one from the table, then my absolute surprise when I realized there was only one left and I was next in line. A very lucky day indeed, and for that reason, I’m ok with keeping mine a safe queen. :)
Since you mentioned that you’ve got other very nice knives in your rotation, maybe this one could spend a little more time in the safe while you mull over the decision. You might find that you enjoy simply owning it more than you‘d enjoy using it.

I may have stalked some of your other posts earlier today. You’re the only other one of the 31 that I could find online so far. Thanks for the input!

No, you shouldn’t use it on a regular basis. Maybe, a special occasion carry knife.
Think about it, there’s only 30 other people that have a limited numbered CRK like yours. Yeah, you’ve got bragging rights with that one.
Sometimes, having a knife that brings a smile to your face doesn’t mean that’s a knife that you’ll use.

I vote no, as any other PJ 31 would be exactly the same, and can be used to your hearts content... For a knife that has already arguably doubled in value, keep her mint! It's 30 years into the future but if you had a numbered "P" , would you like it mint??!!Bart

Since you asked, under all circumstances yes.

I guess I am the only one on the other side of the coin. I say put it in your pocket and carry the smile it gives you with you all the time. Its a tool to be used and admired, on a shelf or tucked away in a safe is not a place that it can be to you what it can being in your hand or pocket.
I guess I am just not the “ my precious” type and regularly carry a 21 with the one year anniversary date of my sobriety as well as a 64-69 Case Stag stockmen my daughter gifted me.

I am of course not saying beat on it but carry and use it every now and again.

Of course at the end of the day we are all different people and my feeling will not be everyone else’s and thats sure ok.

Enjoy the knife in whatever way you choose, after all its an amazing gift I am sure you are proud to have been given.
