Being new to Sebenzas i have a couple of questions . On the inside of the lock bar is a small 'ball' which helps put presure on the blade and fits in a small hole on the blade when shut so it stays there . Now what is this ball made from , how is it held in and what are the chances of it coming out ?
and the other question is on the inside of the handles is stamped C 03 , now i would imagine the 03 is for year of manufacture but what does the C stand for . Forgot to say its Large classic wood inlay . Hang on i think i just answered my second question C = Classic ?
Just one more , is the metel on the clip screw softer than the Titanium handle , just wondered if it was possible to strip the thread on the handle or would the screw give out first ? i do need a new clip screw as the rench doesnt fit very well now and slips a bit due to the fact that i couldnt make my mind up if i should keep it on of off  but the threads on both are fine but im happy with it off and have put a clip insert in and carry it deep pocket in its leather slip/case .

Cheers

That's the "detend-ball"....,not shure what it's made of,but it's strong!!! Never heard of a detend-ball that came loose!

The number stands for the year the handle-slabs were manufactured,I guess the letter is a code that indicates the specific month/period (only of importance for CRK for quality control issues)

The screws/pins are softer than the handles, which makes sense!!! It's cheaper to replace the screws than the handles

If I'm wrong anywhere,please someone correct me!

The detend ball is made of ceramique.
I was thinking the same thing as I have never heard of one in a Sebenza flattening out. Some other knives with a dentent are made of steel and will wear or flatten over time.

After taking apart my Sebenza and examing it further I believe the ball detent is steel, not ceramic.

Mine, if you can believe it, actually has developed a flat spot over the years, but nothing to write home about. It still mates with the dimple on the blade quite effectively and keeps the blade shut with no play whatsoever.

Professor.

I believe CRK a LONG time ago said that the ball was ceramic. I am sure the ball on my 7 year old sebenza is ceramic, it is a very dull grey. I noticed on a newer mnandi that it was more of a shiny black color. Perhaps CRK changed to steel, although I sure hope not!

The ball is ceramic. I cleaned it up a little better and though it did look like steel it is actually a grayish ceramic ball that is press fit into the detent.
