I was just thinking about Marijuana (um no, I wasn't smoking it, okay, well not today at least) and realized that the Sebenza is a lot like Marijuana. Marijuana being the "gateway" drug and the Sebenza being the "gateway" knife. Once you buy a Sebenza you tend move on to custom knives. Unlike Marijuana, the Sebenza is the finest "drug" there is IMHO.

hhmmm, I disagree on the gateway part, a custom knife has to be REALLY special before I'd consider it seriously.
Since mother of pearl, filework and jeweled liners don't do much of anything for me, that eliminates a very significant portion of custom makers. What's left have to compete on design, materials and execution.
I used to go to knife shows pretty regularly, but I haven't in a while, the only ones I thought compared well against the sebenza where models by A.T. Barr, K. Carson.
I may be behind the times.

If there is a "gateway" knife, it wouldn't be a Sebenza. A Sebenza is WAAAAY beyond the "gateway"!! (of course, I'm still saving for one)
I think the "gateway" knives are the Custom collaborations (sp?) that Spyderco, Benchmade, Outdoor Edge, CRK&T, and Camillus are bringing to market. Think about it. That's what really got some of us hooked into those custom knives, didn't it??.

I must disagree with all of you! The Benza is a high end production blade!! Nothing more....... Definite difference between customs and a Benza....... Believe me...I own 12 Benza's and alot more customs!
And "spyderman"......I wish that you would have posted your advice sooner.....
Lit my large plain up.....Man, leaves a metallic taste in your mouth afterwards!
The small didn't taste much better!!
But, I feel like this little guy now ---->
