Sebenza Article in Local Newspaper

Recently I was reading my local newspaper, "The Baltimore Sun." There is a weekly section called "Plugged In" which deals with computers and associated items.

To my surprise when I opened the section, there was a color photo of a Sebenza in the "What's Hot" column. It had a very favorable article on the Sebenza.

I thought it was an odd place to put the article, but I guess the point was that the Sebenza is manufactured with the latest hi-tech methods.

It was great seeing a high end knife reviewed in a general interest publication. Until I joined Bladeforums, I didn't know what a Sebenza was.

Well I (and probably others) sure would like to see that article.

From the article...

"The Sebenza strikes a superb balance between edge integrity and ease of sharpening. I've had mine since July and it hasn't needed sharpening yet."

If he hasn't sharpened it yet, how does he know it's easy to sharpen?

I've been carrying my Sebenza nonstop since I bought it a year ago and I've needed to sharpen it many times; must be doing something wrong!

Still nice to see a knife review in a non-knife publication! Thanks for the link.

Axel: Hello from Phoenix, MD. Saw the same "Sun" article. Impressive/interesting place to find coverage (maybe I don't have to drive to "Greetings and Readings" to get my knife publications now). Sent a money order for a small one the next day. We'll see what turns up. Jon

Jon, we're practically neighbors! Have you ever gone to the Chesapeake Knife Show? I went this year. I was finally able to handle all those knives that I had only seen pictures of.

Is "Greetings and Readings" a good source for knife mags? I usually go to the Newscenter at White Marsh Mall, but it is a bit of a hike.

Cerulean, thanks for the link. I should have thought of finding it on-line.

Axel: The new Barnes and Noble bookstore in the old Hutzler's building at Joppa and York roads in Towson has them, too. Take Care. Jon

Hi everybody!

I am the guy who wrote the article for the Sun. I'll bet you guys never suspected it was a fellow forum member, didja?

If you want to check out the article online too, you can read it at http://www.streettech.com

I'm glad you enjoyed the article. Not enough people know about this great piece of steel and titanium, don't you agree? I am trying to get CRK to submit it to the Museum of Modern Art in NY for their permanent design collection.
Stay Sharp,

Eric

Oh, and in answer to Ryan: I said it didn't need sharpening, but I did it anyway, to see how easy it would be. I wanted to see if I could screw up the sharpness of the blade, and see really how easy it was. I used my Sharpmaker 204 and in about 5 minutes I was able to shave my arm.

I use my Sebenza primarily to cut fruit, and open boxes. I am not that hard on my knife so it doesn't need frequent sharpening.

Eric, it's great to know that a fellow forumite is out there spreading the word on knives. Did the article make it into any other publications?

Jon, I checked out the Barnes and Noble. Pretty good selection of knife mags. Thanks for the tip.

Axel: Are you aware that there is a (Gun &) Knife show today thru Thursday at the Timonium Fairgrounds? Once this blizzard stops, I may be able to drop over there and see what's up.

Ediamond: I'm surprised that your piece got picked up by "The Baltimore Daily Worker", er, Sun.

Jon, yeah I heard some people talking about it at the shooting range. Too bad it's on weekdays. I doubt that I can make it. This snow sure is making a mess. Although, I did get a day off.

Axel

Great work on the article Eric. I knew it had to be a forumite!

Hey Ewok, I knew someone would ding me for that! I actually wrote it might be the last knife you'll ever buy, but the editors made a few changes.

Still if you aren't a knife nut and you did buy a Sebenza, it very well might be the last pocket knife you would buy.

It could happen!

Eric, nice piece, were you able to put the cost of the knife on an expense account?
