All right guys I finally took the plunge and bought a large regular sebenza off the for sale forums. I plan to use it as my deer knife. Do any of you folks use one to field dress whitetails, how well do you like in that role.

Thanks,
Rick

Hi Rick,
I've never field dressed a deer with a Sebenza per se but I HAVE dressed deer with LESSER folders, (and lesser fixed blades!). You have NOTHING to worry about. Your Sebenza will serve you WELL! I have owned several over the last few years, and even though they don't "float my boat" any longer, they are as strong as folders come.

As a side note, I STILL can't believe people wanted to put inlays in these things! They were made to USE but folks put enough pressure on Chris that he HAD to oblige. Even though he rebelled at first, it sure made his business take an upswing!

Believe me, TO EACH THEIR OWN but I STILL can't figure why someone would want to RUIN a Sebenza with inlays! Just goes to show how many folks DON'T use their knives! Okay, I know, here comes the flames!!! :)

I own several large Sebbies. . .but have yet to use any to dress. . .

I have dressed 3 deers, numerous squirrels, a gazillion fowl (mainly pheasant) and quite a few rabbits with a small Sebenza. It's almost as if the knife was made for it. :D

Personally. . .I don't think that you'll have a problem dressing anything with a large !

I think that "Sebenza" stands for "tank ~ very cool knife ~ can do anything !" :D

(lol ~ just kiddin'. . . I know what "Sebenza really translate to." ;)

I prefer a fixed blade (Schrade Sharpfinger) for hunting. If I were to use a folder, it would be a Sebbie.

Rick -- check out this thread by the Professor:

I probably didn't get it to link properly, but you can cut and paste (well I guess it did work after all) . Also if you want more info I would private e-mail the Professor. He is a great guy and always willing to give any info he has on a subject.

Oh yeah...be sure and check out my post in that thread. Don't do much hunting but the Sebenza has held up great for all my other uses.

Good luck..JT

I also prefer a fixed blade, mostly from a blood and guts standpoint ... the folder is obviously a lot harder to get clean.

I carry either a Sebbie or a Carson Model 4 drop point as a backup hunter/skinner, and as of course a utility knife when out in the boonies. These two are absolutely the first two knives that come to mind when someone wants a custom or nearly so folding hunter for medium sized game. The Spyderco Wegner is a distant 3rd as a less expensive production piece.

I have field dressed a Mule deer and a hog..sure it gets dirty.what knife wouldn't..:)

The best thing about the Sebenza is the ease of take down and clean up..you will have no problems using the Seb in this manner..
