Hey boys and girls,

you just had to check out what this post was about didn't you :) Feast your eyes on some good old use 'm and abuse 'm sebenza pics.

Just did a weekend in the woods following a woodcarving course for the fun of it. Had a good weekend, with a teacher who learned from a sami in Sweden. Now, you can't tell that by looking at the next pictures, so be warned!

The sebenza you see here is pimped by Peter R with a rescue orange flamed g10 scale, but this was after I got home. It's awesome!! I'll post pictures of this in about two weeks as I'm off to do some hiking in scotland first.

first, I cut down this tree with my small classic sebenza

(nah, it was a pullsaw..)

then, when the tree tried to run away, it flew after it and stabbed it, pinning it to the ground

(the piece that later became a spoon)

this was to be made into my shaving bowl. It became a bowl after I failed in creating a cup from it :)

my spot.

the result:
three more or less usable spoons
a shaving bowl
a hamburger flipper (not on the pic)

truth be told, the sebenza was not really very good for this specific kind of carving. It was good for wood removal, taking long slices of wood away. But for finer work I used an $11 mora knife. The scandi grind of the mora is excellent for this kind of work. Believe me, I tried to make it work ;) but there's a knife for every occasion and this just wasn't the sebenza's moment of glory.

Nevertheless, it served it's purpose again and besides using it for the crude work for the different things I made, I also made a whistle with it from a 'lijsterbes'( don't know the english word for it).

Zyhano,
What A Great Post, Thanks For Sharing.:yawn::yawn: Rick :yawn::yawn:

I enjoy seeing your pictures, too. I know what most parts of the US look like. Seeing your pics is always interesting, knife or no.

Awesome looking spoons

Did you use a spoon knife, or just the Mora?

I'm off to do some hiking in scotland first.

Where do you go? I'm planning a 2/3 days hike for next year, either near Edimburgh, somewhere in the Speyside or between the two...any Internet ressources you can share for planning a hike there?

Thanks for the help and sharing pics :D

I used a spoon knife too, to get the dent in the spoons.

I did the west highland trail, 96 miles trip from glasgow to fort william. I enjoyed it a lot, definitely do it if you have the chance. It has a dedicated site, you can get it via google. Make sure you don't go in mid summer to the north and west, you'll be eaten by the midges (no, not midgets :)). They were hardly there last week, and weren't yet in the biting fase.

I'll be putting up a video doing a review during the trail on a rat cutlery rc-4 and it's custom kydex sheath by Martin Swinkels.

Lijsterbes is known in English as a rowan or mountain ash.
thanks
