I took apart my Small Regular Sebenza tonight and I thought it had a S30V since the knife is from 2004 (scales say B 04), but the blade doesn't have a 'S' engraved. Does anyone have any photos of the blade letter engravings signifying the blade steel. Please POST PHOTOS. I have looked at a ton of threads and posts for the past two hours and can't find photos of the letters on the blade.

Here is mine.

I thought it may be BG42 due to no markings, but since BG42 wasn't used anymore in 2004 I was confused. It is also a polished blade so I don't know if that has anything to do with it as far as putting a blade with scales from different time periods. The knife with the polished blade was purchased direct from CRK in '04. Too bad I can't find the dob card :(

Here is the Blade Steel timeline from Nyefmakers sticky:

Sebenza Blade Steel Timeline

First knives were ATS-34

Switched to BG-42 October 1996

Switched to S30V January 2002

Switched to S35VN January ( aprox. ) 2011

If we follow the timeline, then it does seem like the blade was swapped into later handles. You can send it in to CRK and they can confirm the blade steel--and it can have a nice spa treatment while there!

Thanks for the timeline info!! I was wondering the same thing. My large Regular that I just got also has "B 04" inside the handle and I was wondering if it was BG-42 because the edge retention is out of this world. But it does have the "S" marking, so I guess its just a lucky s30v heat treat or something..

As for your knife hodo, could there have been a blade swap along the way sometime? You could probably get it RC tested to figure it out..
