Have the blades on small Sebenza always been S30V Stainless?

How come stainless?

I bought mine in 2001.

no, progression was

ATS-34 -> BG42 -> s30v

From the date it sounds like your is BG42.

Unless you like traditional pocket knives, I'm not sure why any modern knife would use anything BUT stainless.

Because tool steel offers some huge advantages. I prefer stainless on folding knives, but for hard work knives like camp knives, tool steel is pretty much needed. A tool steel Sebenza would be pretty cool. It would offer much better performance than a stainless steel one.

Ah, got ya. You like to whack at stuff with you knife intead of cutting things.

Camp knives are special purpose knives. Sebenzas are meant to be versatile and durable.

Read about s30v qualities and you'll understand that it is really a great all around performer that is easy to maintain.

I've heard, on this forum no less, that s30v is actually pretty good but the heat treat CRK does is not ideal.

I don't believe that personally but it's been said.

How is tool steel so much better. I have had a knife since I was about 8 years old, and I will take S30V any day. Tell me way tool steel is so much better.
