Sebenza blade play?!?

So I've had a few now but today I got my very first small 21 brand spankin new. The blade makes contact with the slab when opening and closing and there is a lot of travel in it. Do they normally ship this way so I can tighten it down to my preference? Or do I need to send this in?

This is not acceptable, send it in or contact the dealer you bought it from.

Welcome to the CRK club. I have a small 21 plain Jane that also rubbed the slab when opening and closing along with blade play. I first tried to tighten up the screws with no luck. So then I took is apart reset the large brass washer and put it back together. Problem solved. This was my first time taking a CRK apart and is was easy to do. If your comfortable taking it apart go ahead if not, I'd call the company you bought it from and ask to send it back. It's your choice.

Well strangely enough, a quick breakdown and back together fixed it from touching the side...but something still seems....off....it seems like there is a lot of space between that washer and the blade.

I would agree that it does not appear as it should.

Are you absolutely certain that it is authentic? If not, I would return it for a refund. If so, I would contact CRK during their business hours. It should be VERY rare that a new CRK should need any attention like you describe, and if you have one that does require attention, I am confident that CRK would be interested.

*UPDATE*

I took it apart again and I had the same blade rubbing issue, again...so, I though one more time before I write emails and pack it up (this is the only sebbie I have right now, was not looking forward to being without one again for a month) I put it back together in the manner CRK suggest and added a little tuffglide around the washers, solid as a rock now, not touching the slabs, no play.

I am confident enough to carry it now until I can get another one then I'll send this one in to have it double checked.

PS....for anyone that reads this if you've never had a brand new sebbie, these things come EFFING SHARP...haha, be careful!

Thanks for all your help guys, love this community!

Glad to hear you got it all worked out.

With my 3 small 21s, I've noticed that actually IS a proper way to reassemble one of these, contrary to the popular belief (and one I used to hold myself) that it's impossible to put it back together wrong.

But it's not hard at all once you know how to do it, and once you have it properly assembled it's absolutely amazing. Smooth, centered, and rock solid in every direction.

Yes, and that stop pin sleeve, is that something new? Mine does not look like that.

I've had a few Dutch owners bring me their Sebenza's which also had a bit of blade play, but in these cases it could only be felt in the open position when the lockbar was held open.
The blades could be wiggled a bit, but there was no rubbing against titanium with any of them.
Since we're in the Netherlands it isn't cheap for Sebenza owners to send knives back to the US, also since there is a fair chance the knife will be taxed again upon return by our esteemed but extremely greedy Dutch customs officials.
Anyway, the problem with these knives was the pivot bushing which was just a hair too long, and it was easily solved by polishing the bushing ends just a tiny bit on a Spyderco fine ceramic stone by making figure 8 movements (and re-assembling & checking the knife in between)

Something still seems off...brand spankin' new and it has a grooved stop pin. I thought they stopped using those a couple of years ago. My smalls from 2012 have them but later ones don't as far as I know. Maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong here (or was it just the large Sebenza that no longer uses them?).

That picture shows an assembly that is so far off I would be surprised if it came from the factory that way.

These two things together make me ask, did you get it from a third party, or from a reputable dealer?

Got it from a reputable dealer. If it's I guess I shoul have said brand spankin new to me , I didn't mean it's birthday way like a few days ago, it's actually March 2013. Box was sealed, knife was wrapped, box was in a sealed plastic pouch also.

I don't really have any concerns that is not authentic, if it's a counterfeit, it's the best one I've seen. And I think I noticed the problem the last time I took it out. The smaller washer has a mark rub mark on it. Like it wasn't set properly, after I put it back together CRKs way it's just like I expected it to be...wether it slipped through CRK like that (doubtful), had been taken apart, or something shifted over two years of storage I'll never know. But like I said, I will send it to CRK for a checkup once I have another Small 21 to carry while that ones away...anyone selling any?? Haha...

Also Heres a pic of the assembly now.

None of my crks ever came in a sealed plastic pouch or wrapped. Only in the foam tray not wrapped in plastic. Box was never sealed either. No tape or anything.

Yeah, that's how all of my new CRK's have come as well. I've never seen plastic wrap on the knife itself either. Then again, I think all of the new CRK's I've bought were taken out for pictures. The knife sits in the formed form tray with the cloth then the paperwork on top, all in the box.

Every small Sebenza Ive had came in a rectangular cardboard box, not in a formed tray. Except my knife art exclusive.
