I am new here and not a knife collector. I am a knife maker and hang out there on this forum. Anyway, I purchased a 2014 Blade show Commemorative Sabenza. I have met Chris and talked with him several times at Blade. I have #4 of 12.
My question is will this become more valuable with time? I had a new grand-daughter born this year so it will become hers to do with as she see's fit. After she turns 18.
I am going to store the knife in my safe, is there any special preparation to keep the knife in perfect condition for a long sleep.
Thanks in advance guys

I would wipe the blade down with a good oil every so often. Tuff cloth would also be a good option in my opinion. After that I'd put the knife in a good case (something like Bills Custom Cases) for added protection. Now that I've give you some advice, how about some pics for me to drool over?

I haven't taken it out of the box yet. Tomorrow I will do a series of photos and we'll take it out of the box together. I wasn't sure if I should open it or not. Its not sealed so what the hell.

Opening the box to take a look won't hurt anything at all. In fact, if it were me I'd even take the knife apart and clean it up from the inside. The grease tends to break down on its own after awhile I've found. I wouldn't worry about hurting its value. As long as the knife is complete with papers, box, etc and new you'll be fine.

It will increase value in time provided someone is looking for/collecting that run of knives. As most have seen, the Sebenza's do get more collectable over time.
A little light weight oil from time to time, and inspection from time to time should do ya good

what is with CR knives needing to be taken apart, regreased, oiled etc all the time. always reading about guys doing that. I have a dozen mnandis and one sebenza and never done anything to them nor has it seemed necessary. I've carried my william henrys for over 10 yrs now and NEVER had to take them apart or oil/grease them.
Is this really necessary or just something CRK addicts do for fun???

She is a very lucky girl. I would expect that a BNIB 18 year old numbered Sebenza should definately appreciate. Nice score BTW. As for care periodic checking maybe once a year or more if you like lol, And some light protective oil as needed should do the trick. Love to see some pics.

Pretty much nailed it. Its fun to tinker......keeps the hobby interesting, but is hardly necessary more than maybe once or twice a year, if that. It's a nice relaxing thing to do every so often........tear down and relube your sebenza.......takes your mind off the problems of the world..............at least until you pinch a washer :D

I love the sentiment behind what you did. My own multi-year quest involved getting a CRK Annual knife for each of my boys' birth years. Treasure it for what it represents to you personally rather its monetary value. Generally knives are a poor investment choice....however, limited edition, numbered knives have at least a greater potential to hold or increase their value over time. There are exceptions of course ( a BG-42 Large Sebenza for example) but that's what I've observed over the last few years.

With banks paying .64% on money market accounts over $25000.00 Knives seem like a good investment...LOL . Plus there is the fun factor
