I've often gotten the impression, when looking at different Sebenzas - like the 21, Regular, LE, and others whose names I don't know off hand, that the blade shapes appear different.

Some seem taller (spine to edge) and others seem to have a different overall appearance, like being broader toward the tip as compared to a slimmer narrow profile when moving toward the tip.

Is this my imagination and maybe due to the angle of the pictures or are there different blade designs (not counting Tantos and Insingo blades)?

The blade shapes are different, very noticable when comparing the Regulars vs 21's. Then you have the Insingo blade which I belive is a modified wharnclif (sp?).

The original Sebenza blade profile was used until the new design was introduced in 1996. This redesign later became known as the "Regular" style. In 2000, due to popular demand, CR brought back the original style blade and called it the "Classic". The Regular and the Classic were produced side-by-side until 2008 when the Regular was dropped (other than the LE Annuals) and the Classic was modified slightly into the "21". There have also been variants, which I've tried to list below, but the Original/Classic/21 and the Regular have been the two predominate styles.

Sebenza blade that I know of-

-Original/Classic/21
-New Design/Regular
-Tanto
-Insingo
-Flat-Ground Regular

Thanks for the information guys. :) Barring the tanto and insingo, which Sebenzas sport the beefiest blades - like the tallest, measured from edge to spine?

Definately the Regular "Bull Nose " :)

But... only by a little and mostly at the curve towards the tip.

I'm sorry ThievesLikeUs, is that "Bull Nose" a blade that one can order or a Sebenza model or what? I'm only failiar with lg 21's and their blades look the same (kinda slim in the point IMHO - but still very nice) :)

Well sorta...The Bull Nose is just an affectuate term for the Regular blade style, sadly its been discontinued...but if you are lucky, you can snag an annual Sebenza. They still use the Regular profile, but each with a unique wood/ivory inlay chosen each year .You can also find the plain jane Regs from time to time on the exchange or the 'bay.

Thanks for explaing man. That's the blade that looks the biggest to me - the "Regular" Sebenza. :)

No problem bro,

Here is a Pic of a 21 and Regular blade:

And the circled area is the main difference in the two, see how the bottom/Regular has more of a hump towards the tip:

This an example of what we're talking about. The bottom one is an example of the "bull-nose" Regular profile. It's just a bit thicker toward the tip than Regulars from around 1999+. The top is a "Classic" and the middle is the "Original" profile.

They're all beauties, but I do like that broader blade profile. It's tough having to suffer with my skinny ones :( :D

Nice polished blade on the center Sebenza - whoo hoo!!

I'd like to snag a minty Regular or even a new Micarta Inlay - I've been trying to find one of those and they're usually common. I suppose a batch will b coming out pretty soon.
