Hey Guys,

I received my Large Sebenza this past Saturday.
I purchased it new and it's really a beauty with the Ebony inlays.
Born on date is 2008.

When deploying the blade with the thumbstud while flicking the knife open,
the blade seems a little stiff. I really have to put some force behind my wrist flick to get it to snap open.

Has anyone experienced this, do I need to break it in for smoother action?

Thanks in advance guys

I've owned two different sebbies. The first one was pretty stiff off the start but got smoother after about of week of use. The second was like glass out of the box.

You might want to take it apart and clean it, even though it's unused the lube might be
a little gummed up.

Sebenza tolerances are pretty tight. The action tends to be a bit stiff but does break in over time.

Read the sebenza faq above to get a good idea of all the ins and outs.

do not wrist flick your sebenza.

you will void the warranty.

it will get smoother just opening/closing it.

Thank You and to everyone else for the info.

I did not know about the wrist flicking part
Luckily I only did it a few times.

Time to have some fun and break it in :D

it is unlikely you have done any damage, but wrist flicking can peen the lockbar face and imparts quite a bit of force on the knife as a whole.

it's in one of the stickies, iirc.

thumbflicking, ok. wrist flicking, bad.

When people refer to thumb flicking, you basically place your finger behind the thumb stud and flick your thumb up. Once your sebenza is broken in, you should have no issues thumb flicking it.

FYI: Your thumb will probably be sore for the next few days as the Sebenza is a bit different to open then other folders. :p

I just finished thumb opening it for the past 20 minutes.
Thumbs already sore:D, but got the hang of it rather quickly.

Yeah they don't take long at all really to break in. Mine was broken in pretty good by Saturday, and I just got it on Wednesday. I am not very good at thumb flicking, and it thumb flicks open just fine now. It could probably get a little smoother, but at least now I don't have to concentrate at all to get it open, it comes out naturally.

Now I just got to get ready to get my second one broken in, should be here tomorrow :D.

Call me anal...:D...I have found with my CRKs that, like a vehicle, it is not a bad practice to change the lube after a break-in period. The tolerances are tight and there is some wear among the steel, phosphor bronze and titanium components during the inital use period. A thorough cleaning and re-lubing helps smooth operation. By the way, I would strongly recommend using CRK grease when you do. It will be a little slower than an oil-lubed knife, but very smooth and it will keep those tight tolerances for longer.

Plus Sebenzas at their best are hard to flick> Try taking it apart and cleaning/relubing it. That will make it smooth as glass!
