Sebenza Clip ?

I've had my new Sebenza for almost 4 days now and trust me when I say that I am VERY picky when it comes to my knives...I go out of my way to find any flaws etc...

Well, Ive picked over my Sebenza and I have not seen the even the smallest of flaws!

What I do have is just a question about the clip screw. The screw protudes from the inside of the handle of what appears to be about .025, this is the only thing to me that seems "out of place", Seems like it needs to be ground down to fit flush...??

Ive gone back and looked at as many photos as I could of others and they all seem to be this way. Any reasons...?

Keep in mind...This is NOT a complaint, I am VERY happy with my new Sebenza, I am even planing to by the baby Sebenza at the March Cincinnati NKCA show.

Just a guess on my part, but I think that CRK was sort of pressed into fashioning a clip by all the demand, so instead of just bolting one on as others do, Chris designed a well for the clip to sit in and allow one screw to attach it with, if the hole was countersunk it might not be as strong, being only one screw, so they went with the screw they now use. I'm a clipless Sebenza guy, and have removed mine as soon as they arrived and like the way they feel in the hand better. I do have knives with clips, the M2 AFCK for instance which requires 3 screws to hold on the clip, having a clip featured knife allows me to carry more than one knife, don't care much for the Batman utility belt look or I'd just have sheaths all around my waist

Batman utility belt!...I like that

I too think I'll do without the clip and order the piece to fill in the clip groove.

What I was concerned about was the way the end of the screw comes through the handle into the space between the handle slabs.

Yes, the end of the screw protruding between the slabs bothered me at first as well. But since the knife has developed no play whatsoever, I don’t think it is a problem as it is well clear of the blade.

I like the clip recess insert as well. The head of the screw protruding a little extra just might be an advantage when using one of Gary’s horizontal sheathes. Helps lock it in just a touch more, although I didn’t have any problems during the Opera Season that just passed, going up, down and all around San Francisco’s Historic War Memorial Opera House.

In case you can’t tell, I think you would like one of Gary’s sheathes

The protruding screw bothered me too. I just took my Leatherman Wave and used the diamond file to take a little off the screw. I even slightly rounded the end. Now it doesn't bother me, and it only took a couple of minutes.

Thanks James, glad to hear it's holding up well for you. Tipstein, good idea on mellowing out the screw, I opted to not have the replacement piece, just ignored the little well, since it's on the palm side when I use the knife I don't see it, out of sight out of mind I guess.

I put some new pictures on my web page, trying some new carving on the Sebenza sheath, might try a Yin/Yang symbol next time, if you don't see the new stuff on the page, you might have to click on your page Refresh to see the latest images.

Hey! How cool is this....I called Chris Reeve's shop today to order a clip insert for my Sebenza and while talking to them I asked about if it would be sent with an extra screw because I wanted to have one that I could grind down just a bit so it would fit flush with the inside of the handle.

I was told that they are now all being done this way. And why? because they read it here and thought hey! you know he's right, and now all the future Sebenza's will have this modification.

And to think...All because of little ol me here in Ohio!

Its neat to think that I had a hand in the continuing development/evolution of the Sebenza!

The real thanks goes to all at Chris Reeve Knives for listening to what we all have to say and making a good thing even better!
