Hi guys,

I am new to this "Sebenza thing". I got my small Sebbie just few days ago (Hi Fish

).
My first impression was: "Nicely made, but what's the deal?" But looks like Sebenza is one of those that you got to like more the more you know them.

Anyways, I was looking at old threads in the forums, and I noticed some discussion about whether Sebenzas should be called "custom" or "production" (Apparently Chris now has people working for him). Well, I don't really care providing that the quality is not affected. And here is a question for Sebenzaholics: did you notice any degradation of Sebanzas quality?

Thanx,
Kris

No, the Sebenza is probably the only knife that you'll ever find, where almost everyone you pick up feels and looks the same...PERFECT.

I've never held a Sebenza that wasn't smooth, had NO blade play, didn't have a perfect lock-up, and wasn't scary sharp. No problems with quality at all, and the blade profile is great!!! The only thing with a Sebenza, is it lacks that personal, human touch. A few people around here also think that it's over priced for a non-custom knife, since for only about $100 more, you can have a true custom knife. I LOVE the Sebenza, but I personally think that their is a little too much mark-up on them. ...but hey, if we all had a Sebenza, it wouldn't be as fun.

I also believe that when you take the quality, and the customer service / warrenty into consideration, they really could bring a little more value than they already do, but they are production pieces, just darned good ones.

The Sebenza may lack that human touch, but they have the best, CONSISTANT quality, money can buy. I personally could care less if the Sebenza were a custom, or production, the quality is #1, and the decorated models are beautiful.

Sebenza's quality has gone up since the days it was a custom knife.

Jackyl, I disagree a bit about the lack of human touch. The handle does lack the human touch (not a bad thing in my book, but not necessary better than a handle with human touch either), but the blade is ground by hand. It has much more human touch than any other production knife (I don't own any customs). Also the decorated models are one of a kind. Only the computer decorations are the same from knife to knife (although I suspect that their coloring might differ a bit).
CRK calls Sebenza semi-production, and I think it's the best description for reason I stated above. And but it would be the same excellent knife even if it was 'just' production.

I'm under the "who cares" catagory. I like my sebenza, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, and it's beautiful...

Humpty, nifrand, amen, brothers.

At a local custom knife show last weekend, I was able to examine a number of folders, both custom and production, and not many of them had the same sturdy lockup, and smooth-yet-tight feel of the Sebenza. The Reeve gang is onto a winning combination, and I'd buy another if I ever lost the one I have now. Hell, I may buy another just to have another.
