Im sure a thread on this was made long before i ever bought my first sebenza , but im curious to ask....
Does anyone know what years, or model sebenzas have change in blade thickness?
I have owned 3 small sebbies, a brand new 2013 21, a no idaho 21 2010, and my most recent is a classic 2006 serrated. It seems the tip and blade on my mm 2006 is thicker and beefier with a stronger looking tip. Did they use thicker blade stock in years past vs newer ones? The Ti even seems a little bit thicker. Are the original bg42 blades thicker and beefier yet? I dont know anyone who owns one that i can compare with. Thanks for the input!

It may be the serrated grind or something then? It seems like the blade on the classic is a tank vs the 21. I love it!

To the best of my knowledge, the only sebenza to have thicker blade steel is the Sebenza 25. The Handmade, P, Original, Regular, 21 all have the same blade thickness. As for tips, different styles like the regular have a thicker beefier tip than the 21's pointier style. Since they are ground by hand, I have seen ever so slight differences, but thats normal and nothing to worry about. Serrations were an option added to a standard blade, so I doubt a blade is made any different when serrations were wanted. As most of also know, CRK made subtle changes over the years changing blade grinds ( jimping, tang ) to just name a few within a said group over the years as well.

They're hand ground? That would explain a lot of the un-symmetry in a lot of my Sebenzas. That's pretty surprising in this age of cnc.

From my understanding they are, but I am not 100%. I focus more on their older offerings than the new stuff hot off the presses.

I would suggest that some people prefer hand ground to CNC. I definitely prefer something that is ground by hand exceptionally well, but not so perfect that we forget that someone truly skilled did the work. It's sort of like hanging paintings in your home rather than digital photographs;)

Opinions vary, and that is a good thing.

I would have got a classic sooner if i knew the tip didnt come to such a point like the 21 s ive owned. That is the only reason why i never edc them because im scared to break that point off. The classic is going to get some use. I think if CRK made a small 25 with the same thickness and pivot a ton of guys would buy them. I love the idea of an overbuilt sebenza, but i guess they are overbuilt as it is.

I had a S30v Small Micarta 21 clip point that retained the blade thickness all the way to the tip. Tremendously stout blade

There is a video of some guy who speaks Russian with a Zaan doing a "torture test" and he beats the crap out of that - makes me want one, then I realized Im not going to baton a tree, or stab a 2x4 or cut metal. Its amazing that someone would take a 400 dollar knife and use it to do that crap, but I guess its nice to know it can stand up to anything you can throw at it. Again, its one I wish they would make a small version of.
