Hi,

I've been offered a Tom Mayo customised l/h small sebenza. I've currently got a small sebenza le from 2005 in black ash burl.

The Mayo version - handles have been re-beadblasted and rainbow anodised, holes drilled in the handles, double thumb studs installed and the blade flats polished. Action also reworked to make it smoother opening & closing. I believe he never does the same pattern twice so this is an unique knife.

Can't really justify both but being a lefty I'm tempted for the mayo one. Would the knives be of similarl value and which would you choose?

Off course I want the mayo sebenza but will require me to sell the LE. Is the mayo more valuable?

Mayo sebenzas are hard to come by, especially a left handed one. I asked Tom Mayo and he said he did less then 50 total and that's all there will ever be.

But every year there are 60 more LE's out there. So yah, IMO get the mayo even if you have to sell a LE. It's not just that they look cool, Tom tunes the action superbly and gives you a nice thumb stud.

Here's some Pron for you:

I would also go for the Mayo'ed Sebenza. Actually think I would prefer that to most TnT's, definitely most Sebenza LE's.

I found out a little while ago that Pimped sebbies by Krein, Mayo and other modders lose their warranty by CRK. Just something to think about before you make your decision. So you can't say later we didn't tell you.

Nothing will probably happen, but you might as well have all the facts eh.

Small Mayo sebenza arrived today. Absolutely gorgeous. Photo doesn't do it justice. Wasn't able to pick up the anodizing of the handle unfortunately. Pity Tom Mayo doesn't have an email address on his website as I would have liked to been able to contact him about it.

I'm curious about the thumbstuds. DaveH stated that you get new, different studs with the mod, and the picture accompanying his post seems to show them. However, yours look a bit different: not as 'squat', more pointy, actually kinda just like original Seb studs but with the pointy tip sliced off. Are they the same studs as in DaveH's photo or different?

Have a good one.

I'll try and get a better picture of the stud but they're more comfortable than the pointy one on the sebenza LE. Don't know how Tom has done it but the action is also much smoother. The centre hole has been counter sunk quite shallow and left raw so the edge is shiney and catches the light.

Shame about the loss of a warranty. I wonder whether CR will service it for a fee if ever required.

Very nice knife !
You can reach him through the USN network forum and the Custom Knives & Guns forum.

Thanks for your help. I've been in touch with Mr Mayo who probably now thinks I'm a mad Englishman. Attach a pic showing the thumb studs as were mentioned by KarlMaldensNose.
