Sebenza engraving

I'm thinking about getting some things engraved on one of the scales of my Large 21. I was just wondering what I need to know before trying to get it done.
I am looking at laser engraving I think.

so, will it effect any warranty? (not too worried about that....I seriously doubt it will ever need warranty work...)
if I laser engrave it, what do I need to look for in a shop (specific type of laser?)

and if anyone wants to know the engraving, I'm thinking about some variation of molon lobe among other things.

I love my sebenza, and won't get rid of it, so I'm not worried about decreasing value etc...

Hey neighbor,

You can send it in to the CRK shop and they will do a custom engraving, but you will have to wait a couple weeks or so to get it back. I believe I have seen someone just take it to Things Remebered or some other mall shop for engraving.
 
I thought about that, but I don't want to be without my sebenza.....I like the knife to much to send it in. I was thinking about a mall type place, but would rather a small shop that is local and has examples of their work. I may also look for a local hand engraver as well
 
You should like the knife too much to take it to the mall, not too much to send it off and have it done right. I get the whole impatience thing because I hate waiting, but in my opinion leaving it at the mall is much riskier than sending it off to CRK.

Chances are that even a local engraver or small shop does not have experience with Ti and will be seeing what happens. CRK does this as part of their existing business and will take care of your knife. And, if anything does happen in their care, you know it will be taken care of without hesitation...
 
Are you looking at mechanical or laser engraving? For just markings I would try to find a laser engraver, that would be really cool!
 
I was thinking laser engraved, but is be happy with either. I won't bring it to anyone who has not done titanium. If I can't find someone local (no mall) I'll send it in, as I have knives I can use while it is gone.

I'll keep this thread updated as I get work done. In either going today or tomorrow to some local shops to look around, won't have anything done at first thoug
 
I too am interested in getting my large 21 engraved. Just some basic text. Ive seen one done by CRK and it looks great because it looks like the beadblast was done over top of the engraving so it blends in with the handle. This opposed to what I am scared of happening where the engraving exposes the raw metal leaving it with that "scratched" kind of look.
 
I am very impatient, but when it comes to my Sebenza I want to do it right. For that reason I sent to CRK for my initials to be engraved on the back scale. And yes, they even re-bead blasted it afterwards. It was well worth it in time & a small fee.

if you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you to have that done?

If I remember correctly, it was about $30-35.00 + shipping for (three letters) initials. You can email them with what you want, and they will quote you.

That's not bad, I may actually look into having CRK do it....I was afraid of it being way out of my price range which is another part of the reason why I wanted local.
 
I shall post pictures, I plan on printing pictures of the scales off a couple times and drawing something out by hand to try and see what designs I like. I lean towards Molon labe on the big side with a sword on one side and a gun on the other, problem is, I can't decide what gun and I can't decide what type of sword. On the lock side of the scales, I already know what I am doing (this side depends on cost), I am gonna have the 2nd amendment engraved in small print.

I actually thought of engraving the Molon labe before searching for it, ends up, someone has already done it (pic was posted in 08 I believe)....so I don't want to look like I am copying him, but I am taking some inspiration from it after seeing it. I learned about what Molon labe means not too long ago, and decided that I wanted something that had it engraved...but not a gun because all of my guns are "pretty guns" so I thought, hey, my sebenza would be cool so here I am looking to get it done.

After I get the rough sketches done, I will post a few different designs and see what everyone here thinks.

The Molon labe and the second amendment! Could you be anymore defiant?! I freaking love it!! If I had a little more defiance I wouldn't have gone with the PG version there but I was already slapped on the wrist my the mods for some other graphic langauge..(apparently there are restictions on where you can use certain smiley faces)... I missed that on orientation haha. No offense mods, they aren't you rules and I am trying to abide by them now :yawn: Anyway I think youris totally sick and approve ten fold! Ps don't worry about copying it sort of goes against the whole defiance thing anyways...

Yea post pictures of your ideas I would like to admire your hard work. Where are you having that done? Will crk do the custom engraving jobs. I was not even aware they did it at all until reading this thread. Keep us posted.
 
I've got a rough drawing worked up right now, with a combination of a modern style Molon labe and an older and rougher style. I am thinking in gonna get CRK to do the engraving or at least part of it, I won't be able to fit the full second amendment where I want it, so u may still see about getting that laser engraved later on.

I can't post pictures from my phone, but when I get back on the computer tomorrow I will get a picture of my preliminary drawing (easy college classes give me time to design it lol)
 
here are a couple of preliminary sketches, one with and without helms. the one with helms assume that it is just engraved around the screws and holes in the scales, I forgot to put those in, the second is just straight Molon Labe, I lean towards either no helm or just the one on the right.

I have a couple more floating around my head too, which i will post whenever i get around to drawing them out

I may also redo the helmet on the right to not interfere with any of the screws/holes and just do that

also, what do y'all think about the the "E" on the last letter of Labe?
I dont know if I want to keep it like that or change it to an "E" like this

Use the E. The one in the pencil sketch is a Greek sigma,their letter S.

I like just the helmet on the right but I think the nose piece should be longer.
 
Thank you, I didn't actually know that about sigma. If I were to use a Greek letter for it, what would I need to use?

And I think your right about the nose guard looking at it again, I did the helmet quickly and just copied from something. The original has a longer nose guard
 
I don't want to hijack your thread, but I will be very interested in what options you come up with as I've been thinking about having my SWAT emblem engraved in the handle of my Sebenza. Does anyone have links to what laser engraving looks like on Ti?

Exactly the way it's printed inside that black box is correct. Wikipedia has a modern version of the Greek font: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molon_labe
