i'm resolved to fill a Sebenza hole with a new large Sebby and have paired down my choices to these [3] three;
- a sweet Unique Graphics
- a KnifeArt exclusive carbon fiber
- a minty vintage '96
I realize the parameters are somewhat broad [one man's Unique Graphic isn't necessarily another man's Unique Graphic] but which would you choose of the three above- from a collector standpoint, from a user standpoint, any criteria you like, which of these would get your $500 ?

In your mind is there an expectation that the vintage '96 would be any smoother an opener than a newer made Sebenza 21 ? Is there anything inherently better with vintage Sebbys ?

Hands down the vintage. I just like old stuff.

If you're talking Regular Sebenzas then, IMO, everything is better. :p:thumbup:

IMHO you will be very well served w/ the CF lg 21. I purchased one approx three months ago and it is truly a vantastic edc.

If you can Find a Sebenza from 1996 for $500 you should buy it.

I think the vintage. A Unique can be nice if you find a pattern you love, but can be difficult to find a buyer that also likes it(if you ever sell). You can always get a nice aftermarket CF scale made for the vintage to change things up.

Really ? I didn't know that was an option, where would buy such- from Reeve directly ?

Vintage all the way, graphic is great but as your first sebenza you will be scared to use it...:) too pretty!
The carbon fiber is a great option but in my opinion not the best way to get the "right sebenza feel or experience" you might want that later...:) good luck!

If the same price, of course the vintage.
No knife beats the older Large Regulars, IMO.

From a collectors standpoint, the vintage
From a user standpoint, the CF Sebenza
For a bragging right, the Unique Graphic
Can't really go wrong with any choice. You just have to figure which will fit your needs. What's the point in having a knife you want to use but don't because you don't want to hurt the resale value.
Half the fun is the hunt, hell, get the user, enjoy it and go on the hunt for the one you passed up.

Vintage are nice, but will you be afraid to use it? The regulars are my favorite by far, so I have multiples so I don't worry about beating one up:)
From a straight new user standpoint, the carbon fiber sebenzas are amazing!!

I'm now flip-flopping between the carbon and the UG, from a re-sale point of view both are respectably decent re-sellers although that certainly wouldn't be my intent.
From a using standpoint I wouldn't be shy about using the UG since my usage would be considered 'light duty', I have an old Spyderco Endura that I use when and if things get ugly.
I don't know enough about the vintage Regular to enjoy it as much as some of you guys would who are already multiple Sebenza owners.

Got a pic of the UG?
