Sebenza handle security

I would like to buy my first Sebenza (small, classic).

My question is the following:
- which handle (classic vs. regular) allows more secure grip in emergency (SD, outdoors survival, etc.), especially by stabbing, pushing cuts, etc.)?

I could not find any explanation by Chris about the reason of introducing the regular Sebenza. Any help?

I would appreciate your esteemed answers,

The best grip would be in my opinion the classic with the black micarta inlays. They are left just a little rough.

The handle of the large is ample and more robust obviously. Its not a small knife though. Personally a knife about the size of the Blur by Kershaw or a little smaller still overall only in a Sebenza would be ideal for me as far as size as I find the small a tad too small and large a tad too large but yet I have one of each. (again) I agree with Dave on the model for grip though. Either models grips are greatly improved by the inserts of Micarta.

What Dave said. The classic Micarta inlays offers a secure grip in a wide variety of situations and the Micarta actually becomes grippier when wet. Perfect all around EDC IMHO.

I really think the major difference between the two is the classic seems a bit easier to get to the lock because of the larger cutout. Besides that, they're virtually identical in most respects.

The question for you is which size is preferable and whether or not you want inlays to make the grip a little beefier in your hand.

I like my large classic with micarta. I picked it over the woods b/c of the grip.

I have both the Small Classic and Regular...

The Classic is easier to operate (open, close) for little cutting jobs (where I'm not white-knuckling)

The Regular gives a better grip (due to the thickness of the locking area) in an emergency/tight grip.

Hope that helps.

Thank you all! My impression (looking at photos) was that classic Sebenza has a longer semi-guard which stops a for-finger better than in the case of a regular one.

I still wonder what was the reason for a handle change, from a classic to the regular?

Don't neglect that the blade geometry differs in the Classic and Regular; the blade on the Classic is relatively slender while the blade on the Regular has a bit more belly.

I agree, STR. I'd like to see a medium sebenza with a blade approximately 3.125 to 3.25. Of the small vs. large, I prefer the small because to large is too large for me.

:)

The Classic is the way the Sebenza began life. In the late 1990's Chris changed the handle shape as an improvement to the knife. That became known as the regular. CRK had a lot of requests for the old style Sebbie and I believe in the year 2000 they brought back the classic so people would have a choice.;)
