Just some in progress pics.

I'm making a retrofit blade for my small Sebenza. I've used the knife as my EDC for two years now, and the original blade has been sharpened too many times.

This one's made from D2. I still have to drill a hole for the detent, ream the holes so that the bushing will fit properly and heat treat the blade:

Just thought I'd share some pictures. Anyone else retorfit their Sebenza? If I had a grinder when I first purchased the knife, I would have made a "working" blade and kept the original in the box.

That's really cool. Do you mind if I ask what the result of the blade being sharpened too many times was? Was the profile radically changed? I have always wondered about this. Just how often has it been sharpened?

I'd guess with too much sharpening, the edge worked its way closer to the spine and became too thick to have a useful profile.

very impressive, I like the work and the idea of using D2and incorporating it in the Sebenza. The only thing I would want extra would be a couple of serrations. Which comes in very handy to me for my usage.
Excellent work!

Very nice! I'm having a blade finished up as we speak. M2 and may do a D2 down the road. I requested some pics from the maker on here but unfortunatly he does not have a working D. camera at this time. As soon as I recieve the knife I will post pics. Again, awsome job.

First off, thanks to everyone for all the comments, and I'll keep you updated. (I actually would have liked to make a M2 blade hardened to HRC 66-67, but can't afford any more steel right now).

Yep, I just kept sharpening it and eventually the blade became shorter and not as deep. It ended up looking like cr*p and anytime someone borrowed the knife the first thing they'd say was "pretty worn huh?"

It still cut, but didn't have the slicing ability as a new blade and didn't look as nice. I lost count of how times I sharpened it, maybe once every two weeks, for two years.

I cut a lot of cardboard, carpet, wood, rope, etc. The factory blade is nice on stuff like paper, but for more abrasive materials, I hope D2 at HRC 60-61 lasts longer than S30V at HRC 58-59.

If you get some additional requests for some blades or are taking orders I'd be interested in speaking you about a small Sebbie D2 blade. Let me know when you get pricing in line if you plan on more. I'd be interested in a blade or maybe two depending on the price, only I will take mine with a simple 3/16" pivot hole and #44 thumb stud hole rather than the Reeve set up since I'll build a new body and lock for it. Nice job! D2 is one of my favorites and what is most often in my pocket in one form or another in the way of a cutting tool.

I like Sebenzas so much I use the same construction methods such as PB bushing and washers and harden steel stop pin sleeve for the 2 folders above. The blades are D2. I thought about making a D2 blade for my Sebenza but I worked out the difference between that and making a complete knife wasn't that much.

I just got a block of D2 off Ebay so I'll be making some integral all steel knives but with a more ergonomic handle

Integral with D2! That would be something. If you make more than one, do you plan to sell them? I would be interested. Regards, Allan

I'll post some pics when they are finished. I can't disuss selling on this forum since I'm not a Gold member! thanks

outlived the blade! Great thread, and darned fine work, since I'm sure taking away steel on that tang ramp and stop pin arch to arrive at the correct tolerances gave you the heebejebees!
