What do you think? I am clean cut, in my twenties, and do nothing that would make it seem like I need it for my employment. In the remote chance I am found to have a small sebenza in my pocket, would this warrant an issue? I ask because everything I have read in terms of NJ law, I feel as though it is fairly vague and open ended.

NJ law is vague and open-ended. Most knife laws were written by people who had no idea what they were talking about and didn't care. The idea was to placate the citizens they had frightened with threats of criminals attacking them.

I carried my Mnandi and a large tanto Sebenza today. Go for it. They aren't particularly aggressive-looking, and from your description, neither are you. If you are asked, you might even mention the cost, like, why would you carry a collector's item like that for nefarious purposes? The name means "work". It's a tool.

I think you should be fine carrying it from a legal standpoint as long as you dont carry it onto school grounds, courts, governement buildings, anywhere where there is a security check, anywhere in NYC (unless you hide it deep in your pants/backpack) and as long as you are not involved in any kind of altercation involving the knife in any way. Dont brandish it in public. If LE asks you why you have it tell them that you need it at work (to open up boxes etc) or you use it for your outdoor pursuits (fishing, hunting, camping, hiking etc). Never say its for self defense. Dont refer to it as a weapon, call it a "tool". Try to stick to blades that are under 4 inches and dont ever be caught with double edged, daggers, automatic/assited opener, boot knives, fixed blades.

Got it. Thanks.

Very good advice, thank you.
