Hi friends,

I am looking at buying another Sebenza after I sold my small Ebony Classic (Dumbest thing I ever did). I think I am going to get a large 21 or used Large Classic but I can't make my mind up about if I should go for inlays or just plain. I am going to use the knife as an EDC and I am just wondering about the durability of the inlays and if there are any reports of them coming off the slabs? I know thay are stuck on by special double sided tape.

It's 3M VHB tape "very high bonding" and the longer the inlay is there the stronger the bond. Get a 2000 Classic or 21 with micarta inlays for EDC. But if you really want wood there's nothing wrong with using those either. The wood will hold up very well. I'd get a Regular Limited (the ones with the wood inlay and the year engraved) and a damascus blade and use the hell out of it!

*I* wouldn't worry about inlays coming off. I have a small classic with micarta inlays and after a year or so, no problems. I read the inlay sit pretty tigth in there (+ the VHB tape). I don't remember hearing about inlays coming off...? I'd be interested in any reports as well.

I'll wait until I win the lottery for that one :).

That was my problem with my last Sebbie, it was so beautiful and expensive I could not bring myself to use it so I sold it. Since then I have spent that money on other folders which are good but they are not the same quality. So I have resigned myself to just fork out the money and get a Sebbie as a user and not waste any more on knives that are just OK.

Would you mind posting a pic of the blade on that guy...... I have been so tempted to get a damascus Seb, or at least a blade made for mine. I just want to know what a blade looks like with real use!!!!

Id really appreciate it!

I got three large with inlays they have been packed and used never no problem, but they have a great warranty.........

The inlays are such a tight fit into the titanium cutout, that they have to be pressed in by a hand press. That alone should hold them in place. Then that along with the vhb tape, they would be almost impossible to remove without tools and prying. I think you are ok :)

The title of the thread is quite misleading as it sounds like a statement instead of a question.

Like many said, the glue only gets stronger overtime.

I am really keen to hear as much input as I can about the inlays and if anyone has had any problems from hard use. Thanks for your opinions so far.

I carry a large with cocobolo inlays (around 18 months now). Never any problems. Buy it with wood inlays if that's what you like and use it in the knowledge that it will last without any issues.

IMHO opinion they are hard to beat. I have Striders, spyderco etc etc, all great knives but the sebbie is the only one that gets used everyday.

I don't have that knife. I said it's a knife I would get. But I'm sure someone has some pics...

Yeah so overall, it's incredibly unlikely that the inlays would fall out, and damage would take much effort as well. If you want an inlay Seb just get it, use it, and don't worry about it. CRK will always take care of you. Otherwise, try an Umnumzaan if you haven't already. And if you want a knife that you can beat the crap out of get an SnG, but it won't be as nice as a Seb.

Was thinking the same thing...
This thread may not get many replies, but very well may set the record for most number of view's.:D

I have a large classic bocote with B&W raindrop damascus blade and double lugs that I carry often.
I don't think twice about the inlays coming loose or about getting a few marks on it but then again I don't abuse it.
The damascus blades not only look great but are incredibly sharp!

Had a fellow send me his limited large sebbie for a sheath, he works in FL
industrial electrician, uses Sebenza's everyday. His wood inlay was scuffed
and dull but never budged, so I very lightly sanded and buffed the wood up
and came out looking like new :) he was pretty happy when it returned.

It was an eye opener for me to see a knife so used and still solid in every respect.

As the posts above say, not to worry.

I've never heard of a single instance where one of Chris Reeve's inlays so much as threatened to come off.

I have never seen or heard of a Seb having lost an inlay, as folks have
already said they are jamed in there pretty tight.

I have seen a Mnandi that had the mamoth ivory shrink and form a gap near
the but of the knife but that was still not going any where even then.
