OK,I came to grips that they're expensive knives,so that's not an issue anymore.I'll be getting a large 21,most likely this upcoming Summer.I really have no interest in a small.I don't really like <3" blades.
What I'd like to discuss is the inlays provided vs. plain Ti.I love the looks of the Snakewood inlay & the Ironwood or Bloodwood inlay.I'm not crazy about the African Blackwood or the Micarta ones. It'll most likely be one of the three mentioned above. The mammoth ivory is gorgeous, but a little above my budget($500-$600) & I'd probably afraid to use it.I'll probably be spending $400-$500.

Is there much of a difference in weight & grippyness of inlays vs plain?
How are the inlays held in?Glue?Epoxy?Any chance of them coming off?
Do they make one with Olivewood inlays?I love that stuff!

Down the road(a year or so),I'll be in the market for one of the CAD/CAM Sebenzas.I really like the looks of the "Freedom" & the "Straight Ahead".If I'm impressed with my first one.

Thanks in advance for your helpful input.:)

P.S. Sorry if this topic has been "beaten to death":o

Micarta for a user, wood for dress carry. I traded into two smalls, one classic and one regular. I have two micarta classics, one large and one small. I have a hard time bringing myself to carry those, just because they're nice. So, I plan on carrying the regular as an EDC. After I grow accustomed to carrying the regular, I plan on being comfortable enough to bring the micartas back into the rotation.

I have a small Classic with Mammoth inlay and one Large Regular annual with Mammoth. Both are users an the Mammoth gets nicer and nicer with age.

I went with no inserts for my EDC. The simplicity of the knife is what I loved about it. Also with it being my EDC I didn't want to have to worry about the inserts. Yes I know there should be NO way they would come out but less is more for me.

The next CRK I buy will have inserts but my EDC is plain.

I just never got grabbed by the inserts or the decorated Sebs,
I do like the look of them of course but just dont really feel the need to have one.

I like the plain jane Sebs personally, especially for a user. :)

I got the reg and classic plain smalls yesterday, and really prefer the blade shape of the regular. This will definitely be an EDC. Trying it out today.

Thanks again everyone.:)

I think I'm gonna go with a "Plain Jane" large for my first one.If I'm impressed with it,I'll probably go with a snakewood or bloodwood inlay next.In all honesty,I'm not crazy about the double sided tape holding them in,for reasons of extreme temperature changes possibly affecting them.

My first Sebenze was the one I wanted. A knife should be carried and used, not locked up in the dark of a safe. I got a large 21, snakewood inlays and silver double thumb lug.
Why spend money on something you don't REALLY want?
I also don't think the double sided tape is going to fail. My knife has gone from temperatures in the teens straight to a 70 degree house, it's gotten wet, dropped, whatever and it's held up very well.

No worry about the tape, it's hi-tech 3M stuff that holds like hell! You'd break the inlays before the tape gives up if you'd try to remove them.

I prefer plain Ti for edc and mamooth as full dress option.

I also prefer plain Ti for its conceptual clarity.

Don't think you need to be worried about the inlays coming out - it's just a matter of your preference in terms of esthetics and utility.

Remember that the top slab is a straight-out production piece; as opposed to the back slab, which is individually fit to the blade tang. You can interchange top slabs, so could swap a blank onto a decorated knife, vice-versa, or you could get an aftermarket top slab.

I never thought of that.Thanks:thumbup:

Thanks for all your help guy/gals:)

I've decided to get the large w/snake-wood inlays this Summer.

I wish they made one with olive-wood.I love that stuff in my Spydie Volpe.

[Kinda off topic]I'm gonna get myself a "Straight Ahead" on Sept.13th 2010 as a gift to myself for 5 years sobriety.:D

I carry the wood inlay large classic. Feels great in every respect. No problems with wear or grip and gets washed all the time. The wood has become darker over time with use (probably from natural oils in my hands). Never tried a straight Ti version but I am sure that either would make you happy
