Sebenza irritation...

I've got a small sebenza and it's generally a great knife,

But

I find the presence of a "tooling hole" absolutely unacceptable in a knife of this caliber and price.

I mean for the knife to be so well put together and free of "machineing marks" yet have such a glaring compromise in design staring me in the face really bugs me.

Am I the only owner bugged by this?

Incidently , seeing Bradley/Benchmades "Alias" Sebbie ripoff and that it didn't have a tooling hole compounded the irritation.

Please don't take this point as a wholesale slam on Sebs, mine is fantastic, I'm just irritated that such an otherwise great knife could have such glaring evidence of compromise.

No, the tooling hole doesn’t bother me.

I’ve always assumed that the presence of the hole provides a locating point from which to ensure the excellent tolerances and finish on the rest of the handle.

It's a toothpick splitter.

I've never understood this misconception!

Professor.

I actually think it adds to the esthetics of the knife. On the handle plate with the lockbar it adds a punctuation. On the other side it adds symmetry.

Maybe I'm biased since I have Micarta Inlays and it looks damned awesome with them...

And I happen to agree whole heartedly.

You're right: it does look very cool with the micarta inlay.

Get a unique grapic, and they can put a gem in the hole, and that will cure the problem, haha.

I don't understand the complaint about "compromise in design". If you had said compromise in aesthetics, I would still disagree but at least understand the basis of your complaint. The locating hole is more evidence of design than compromise; to me it is a visible and tactile reminder of the skill and care that goes into the design and fabrication.

Different strokes...

1) WRONG! If it is totally unacceptable, you wouldn't have bought it.
2) You're whining!

If you are THAT unhappy with it, feel free to give it to me, where it WILL be very much appreciated!!

I like the hole, it gives it a unique look but is there for a practical reason. It also makes it easy to spot the Handmade models!
