Sebenza issue.

I've had a large regular regular Sebenza since January. It is my EDC knife and I think it is one great knife. There is only one thing I keep having a problem with that is starting to become a nuisance.

The screw that goes through the center of the blade's pivot point loosens itself about every two weeks. I open and close the thing quite often and it is the smoothest action I've ever felt.

I would like to know what I can do to prevent having to tighten that darned screw all the time. By the way, when I tighten it I use a good amount of torque but not so much that I over do it.

I have read enough to know that LOCTITE is not the answer. Please help.

Thanks.

Kimber, I've never had to do it on a Sebenza but a thin strip of Teflon pipe thread tape will work. It's a small screw to work with but it can be done. About one wrap around the threads should be sufficient.

Call or Email CRK and ask them to send another bolt/screw assembly. Be careful not to get oil on those screw threads. Your problem will be solved for good.

Newbie alert.... :)

Pete, why don't you want to get oil on the screw threads?

Kimber, the pivot screw on a sebenza is supposed to be tightened down completely. If you do that and the action becomes too stiff then either you probably crimped a washer on assembly. If not then you'll need to send it back to CRK (or sandpaper one of the washers). Good luck.

My main point was to get a new screw assembly from CRK. Keep the threads dry, so they're a little less likely to ever become loose. I've had 10 or 11 sebenzas over the years and love 'em. One reason is that CRK wants their customers to be 100% satisfied. If your knife needs a little attention, let them handle it and they'll make it right.
