Ok now that all of you people have helped me make up my mind, can somebody lead me to a large sebenza with serrations, and the new steel blade,I went to chris reeve website, but I would have to wait months, any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you all.........

I thought it might give it more power for cutting, maybe cutting through thick pieces of rubber,etc.......

Read the FAQ on plain vs. serrated edges:

http://www.bladeforums.com/features/faqser-plain.shtml

A lot of good info.

My personal opinion is tat if you are cutting rope and such all day, then serrations are fine. I feel that a plian edge is much more versatile though. I prefer plain edge knives.

I would also do without the serrations. You really don’t get anything from a couple of serrations (I think they put all of 3 at the base of the blade) other than a pain in the a$$ when trying to sharpen a knife. And I don’t think that you will find shop selling a Sebenza with them. I have only seen them on a picture on CRK’s website. So if you really want them you are going to have to wait for CRK to make one for you.

Here’s some places that I would look for a Sebenza for immediate delivery.

While serrations are handy for certain situations, the Sebenza has such a sharp, fine edge that I'm betting the plain edge would cut through anything you'd need it to without any trouble at all!

If your heart is truly set on serrations, you will probably have to wait through CRKs backorder, because I don't think there are many serrated Sebenzas out there.

serrated sebenza ??? are you CRAZY man ?!? ... get the good ol' plain edge and then get a serrated spyderco for 40 bucks. Think about this ...you may have a hard time selling the sebenza (if you ever needed to) with the serrations. Just my opinion.

Werd!!!

I would just go for the PE Seb and buy a SE Delica for all of the dirty, gross tasks. CRK's serrations work ok but I don't care for 50/50 knives anymore.

I believe you would have to order the serrated version directly from CRK. I believe the serrations are the same type that are on the Green Beret knives. These serrations are incredible, easy to sharpen, and really dig into tough materials.

Forget the serrations, get the plain blade.

In my experiance the half serated blades don't do anything well. Also the sweet spot for most cutting jobs is taken up by the serations. Buy the plain edge sebbie and a fully serated Spyderco. you'll be happier and have two new knives.

I must be an oddball because I sent my small Sebenza back to have serrations added. I cut lots of branches and other fiberous materials, the serrations make work MUCH easier. If you think you need them, go ahead and get them.

I agree with det and K man. These are CRK serrations!

My large regular Sebenza came with them. First of all, they don't take up all that much space -- just over an inch out of the 3.5" blade length. Second, they are flat low serrations, not like sawteeth, and they won't hang up on fibers, only rip through them: you can use the serrated portion almost as if they weren't there because they have flat tips, not spikes. Third, they are easy to sharpen -- just sharpen as if they weren't there.

It might be worth the wait -- you are going to have that Sebenza for a loooong time! :D

Just a suggestion, derschman, but call CRK anyway. Despite what the website says about a wait, sometimes they have one or two in stock. I called 3 weeks ago and asked, and they had a small regular sebbie in stock. Just what I wanted! It arrived within 4 days.
On the serrations...when my small regular arrived, much to my immediate dismay, it had serrations! After some use, it really began to grow on me. I wouldn't have it otherwise, now. The serrations are just like the Green Beret, and are set back from the primary edge, making sharpening (or just stropping) no different from a plain edge. It's now scary sharp!

I love the CRK serrations because they cut, not tear. They are so well designed that they never get in the way like other company's serrations.

That said, I still love my folding chainsaw (Spyderco Endura SE).

Okay, I give up. I've tried to post an image of my serrated sebbie with no success. I can't seem to insert from my C drive into my reply.
I hate it when this happens...

I would like to see pic of serrated sebbie also!
anyone... anyone...
also if somebody would be so kind as to provide a link to
pic posting instructions - I know I saw one before.

I happen to like the serrations that CRK puts on the Seb. They are flat not pointed therefore making them easy to sharpen and they slice through whatever material you're cutting.
