Sebenza knudged its way to my EDC.

I gave in a few months ago and pulled the trigger on a Large Sebenza.

I had been carrying a Fallkniven F1 for quite some time and it certainly served me well. Fallkniven are great knives for the money. I decided that I was getting tired of carrying a fixed blade but none of my folders really fit the bill, even my usual goto S2K.

Technically I work landscaping for a big campground, though the term is used pretty loosely. We get tons of odd jobs, most of them are pretty filthy. The F1 was great for this except for one thing, it was getting just plain annoying wearing it in this darned heat. If I wore the S2K I was much more comfortable but that knife is a bear to take down and clean.

After carrying the Sebenza for awhile I believe I've found my best compromise. Truth be told I would rather carry a fixed blade but I serisouly doubt this knife will let me down. The fit and finish are superb and everything locks up tight as a drum. The size is perfect and it feels great in hand. I wasn't sure about the "notches" up front but they have grown on me. The action was a bit rough at first but has smoothed out considerably. I'm also impressed by how resistant to scratches both the blade and handles are. Scratches don't bother me but it is nice to see it holding up so well.

The one thing that REALLY stands out is how easy it is to take apart, clean and lube, then put back together. This alone makes the purchase worthwhile.

One thing I have noticed... The thumbstud doesn't sit perfectly flush with the blade, you could maybe slip a rolling paper in there. Seeing as the knife spends most of the day soaked in sweat I have noticed just a hint of rust develop around the edges. It cleans up OK, but it has me thinking there may be rust where I can't see or get to. Any ideas on that?

Now I just need to find a good pouch for it. I've seen a few but most require the clip to be removed which is something I'd like to avoid. The CRK pouch is nice but it would have that second snap showing. Any makers you can point me to? Right now I have a long lanyard on it to secure to a keeper on my belt. Most of the time I don't bother but I'll clip it on when I'm riding my bike or spend awhile on a tractor. A pouch seems like a better solution.

Oh, and hello to everyone here in the CRK forums! You helped a bunch in my decision.

As for sheath`s, here is one option :

You can get a pouch perfectly after your liking-even one that dosen`t require to take the clip off.

I haven`t seen any of his work in person, but it looks nice from what I can tell. I even think he is a forum member, as well..... .

As for the surface rust on the blade-I had the same thing happen to my Large Classic, when carrying it in my pocket for two weeks during my vacation. I perspirate quite heavily (it was hot!)-and I guess this time it was just too much. I was a bit disappointed to see rust spots, even though I was able to remove them....... .

Keith, I wish luck had something to do with it!

akubra - Thanks for the link, I have never seen his work. Very beautiful stuff and it seems like he can do just what I'm looking for. I especially like how matches the sheaths with the graphics on the sebenza. Cool!

Congrats on the sebbie, glad you're using it! I always just clip mine IWB...

I've heard of doing that but for some reason never gave it a shot. Might be worth a try I suppose. I just get paranoid when I'm on my motorcycle and have to have everything tied, strapped, glued, or taped to me. lol

Congrats on a great EDC. Vess makes outstanding sheaths. He made this one for me last year for my large limited. He went as far as actually remaking it because he didn't like coloring of the first one he did. the front is hand painted. I use this sheath and knife constantly. The horizontal carry has never failed. The knife snaps into it and won't come out till needed...

That's a beautiful setup blackend.

If the retention is as good as you say I might consider a horizontal versus a vertical with a flap. Thanks for chiming in.

Nice pics! I like the look of the inlay on leather to match the wood. Very nice.

Thanks proguide. That's what we were going for. The painted woodgrain on the sheath is a bit lighter than the wood on the Seb, but still looks great!
Keith,
There are many options for a horizontal sheath. You don't have to go fancy. Another fantastic sheath maker is Gary Graley, better known as G2. You might check out his website. http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Cabin/7306/blades.html .Here's a plain jane one he did for me a while back...

I remember that, had to try and emulate the pattern that was on the knife
came close, glad to see you are still using it!

Keith,
If I'm going to get wet or sweaty or both I clip on my Mission MPF. No rust, no worries.
