Recently purchased a Large 21 Micarta Insingo.

I noticed some milling on the lock-bar that I personally have not seen before. I own 2 other 21's neither has this. However this is my first with inlays, so I'm wondering if this is common with the inlay Seb's.

The milling is very shallow...almost invisible from the side...

Anyone else notice this? Common with the inlay versions?

Thanks...

IIRC, that line marks the demarcation between satin finish and beadblast finish on the inlay models that have a two-tone lockside.

Got to go and check my lg inlay Sebenza...

I don't know about the previous two theories either? Maybe. :)

This is indeed what seems to be the most likely reason, it makes for a clean transition between the 600 satin and blasted finishes found on most inlayed knives. The amount of material removed is really too little to have any other function, IMO.

I almost just returned a knife because I received it with the line milled on it. They really should stop doing it to knives that won't be two tone or let people know beforehand. I was lucky to do a quick search before mailing it off and found this thread. I emailed CRK to be sure as well, but they're closed at the moment.

Yeah, I got a large Damascus 21 last week and noticed this...I shrugged and shoved it into my pocket.

How is the lockup? I have that mill on my large micarta 21 and the lockup is real late.

I would suspect that locking slabs intended for inlays are all made the same way - with the milled grooves to cleanly separate the satin finish Ti from the blast lock tab. The Micarta Sebe's are bit of an exception in that they are the only inlayed Sebenza's with fully bead-blasted Titanium around the inlays, so it appears out of place on this particular model. Looking at it from a pure production efficiency point-of-view, it allows them to not have to manufacture a third variation of lock-side slabs for Sebe's.

It makes perfect sense, and I have no issues with it. I was just surprised that I've never read about it before, and seeing them on my knife made me think it was a defect.

I don't think Chris Reeve and Co. know what a defect is. =D

I think its just a mark to help them align the extra special pocket clip found only on Micarta inlays :D

It's nice to see the patience and consideration the members show on this forum.
There are other places which would display sarcasm and disdain.

Well done!:)
