Hey all,
I am a new Sebenza 21 owner and I just noticed that my lock is a bit sticky. I just wanted to ask if your lock on the sebenza 21 is a bit sticky, or if I just have to break it in. Thanks

It should break in and go away after some time. For now, try a small drop of nano oil or the like on the tang opposite the lock face.

I would use it as is. No oil, no forcing one way or another, pushing, just open and close it. It will break in just fine.

Welcome to the fold.

Try the oil (don't use CRK grease). It helps for sure. Worst case, wipe it off if it doesn't help.

CRK specifically suggests applying a small amount of grease to the tang when lubricating and reassembling the knife. Thus, I would try this out for your break in period. Add a film of grease to the tang, and cycle it open and closed through a movie.

Cool, didn't know they suggested it. Good to know.

Good luck and congrats again.

Good to know. I learned something too. Also, no disrespect intended in my above post.

No worries! Most frame locks I've had recommend to keep the tang clean and dry. I ran across the tidbit that CRK recommends it, and it's worked well for me to follow their advice.

So . . . exactly where are you suggesting to oil go. I'm not quite following.

The very smallest, tiniest amount (film) on the blade tang face where the lockbar meets it.

Oil Here:

Precisely correct. It's a bit easier to get the newer CRK grease tube on the tang when the knife is already disassembled, but you can get a little grease on the corner of a paper towel or cloth and get it to the tang when assembled.

The old trick is to use graphite from a pencil. It will work in over time, but anytime I had a sticky lockbar, the pencil worked fine for me. The hardest part these days is finding the pencil.....lol.

I would appreciate a little bit of stick on the lockbar, not to the extend of having to use both hands to unlock it though, now that woud be a serious issue with the folder. I remember when I first got my 21L, it was super smooth with no stick whatsoever. After usage for a while I do noticed that it tend to get sticky, nothing realy sticky but noticeable. I found that the lock tends to be less sticky when its really clean (no oil) which usually happens when excess from the pivot gets to the lock face. Now I use SFK bearing grease which is not runny unlike the one that comes crk. Just a tad would do. It really helps and no oil gets on the lock face. The lockup is roughly 50% with a tad of stick. Although the skf grease is thicker, the blade does drop on its own weight when disengaging the lock. dismantling/assembing your sebby is the best way to really know the folder. All the best.
