Hey guys, I have a quick question on a small sebenza that Im considering picking up. My question is how far under the blade can the lock get before its too far?? I always thought it was about 75-80% if you were going near the limits... Most of my frame locks are about 50-70% max under the blade. But this one is looking like 98% Here is a pic of the lock up. Is it too far??

Thanks, that thread is helpful. BUT this one seems to be a noticable bit closer to the back of the face scale... Im not liking the way it looks, I dont think I should get it, but then again, I dont know sebenzas that well at all. So, how about an easy solution. From the guys who know sebenzas.
To pick this one up or to not pick this one up?

Thats too far IMO. Not sure if there is an easy solution, but possibly taking it apart for a cleaning and putting it back together might do the trick. But my experience with that is...that method usually only helps if the lockbar isnt traveling far enough, not too far.

Are you getting a good deal? I'm sure if you bought it, you could always send it back. Try taking it apart and putting it back together, this always re-set my lockbar. It always goes back to close to the where I got it when new.

I am getting a good deal if I were to get it. I would be trading one of my sebenzas(with perfect lock up) for it with a cash adjustment. I have a unique graphic that I dont like the graphic on, so Im trading it. It would end up being a great deal, but I dont know if I want to risk it. Because if its something I cant fix, Ill be stuck with a sub par knife, and it would be hard to sell...

I'd nix the deal and keep looking. There are a lot out there where you won't have to wonder/worry.

Like I said, they are gaurenteed for life. If you do get it, send it to CRK. If the lock bar is unsatisfactory to them, they will fix it for you. If they say its OK, use it! I could see your worries if it just touched the tang, kind of the opposit of what you got going on. I could see the lock failing.

If I were you, I would worry too much about it. As long as it functions properly. Send it back to CRK, you'll have to be sebenzaless for a couple weeks or so. I know how hard that can be! They would know better than anyone, hell, the might even replace the lock bar. Then it would be like a brand new one for you.

No way I'd buy that. Why would I go through the hassle of getting the knife, and then sending it in to CRK right after I get it and wait another 2 weeks?

I would also be inclined to pass on that one.

My feeling is that 75% engagement at the tang is probably ideal.

One thing i have found is the lockup can be changed by loosening the pivot screw and tightening again while the knife is closed. This usually decreases the % contact with the lockbar.
