Hi!

I own a small sebenza 21 and a large regular. My favorite is my regular :).

What I want to ask you guys about is the lock-up for my large regular. You see when i compare it to my small sebenza 21 they are quite different! The lock on my small 21 covers about 70% of the back of the blade, but on my regular it only covers about 20%!!! Is this normal/safe? I have read somewhere that according to CRK 50-75% is normal.

I took it apart and cleaned it and put it together and the lock still only covers about 20%. The knife is brand new (the note that came with the knife says 2007 but on the inside of the handle it says 06..)

My second problem with my large regular is the stiffness of the lock bar. When its open its difficult to disengage the lock bar and close the knife. Its like the lock bar sticks to the blade and i have to use much more force to disengage it than my small 21 (which is 100% smooth). After i cleaned it its still hard to disengage but a little better i guess ....

But my main issue with this knife is the lock up... 20% seems a bit too little to me.

Should i send it back to CRK?

Btw, great forum! ;)

If only 1/5 of the actual tang surface is engaged, then yes, I would say that's pretty slight. Have you tried putting a little lube on the tang?

Yes i put a tiny drop of lube on the tang as described in the sticky but it didnt improve the lock-up. My thumb is also hurting after opening and closing the knife because the lock bar sticking to the tang. I think i will contact CRK and see if the want me to send it in to have a look at it.

Two things you can try.
1. Removing the lube from the tang may help alleviate the lock stickiness.
2. Try giving it a good flick open. If the stop pin sleeve is not set back, this will push it back and give you more lock engagement.

I had a similar issue develop with my small classic. I sent it in to CRK and they refurbished and serviced it. Now it has the best lockup of any folder I have, so typical Sebenza lockup :D

I agree.

If you follow the instructions in the sticky above you give it a good flick when you have it back together. Before the flick, mine generally underengage -- after the flick, they go back to normal.
