Sebenza lockup problems?

I've had 3 sebenzas, all of which I could get a very small ammount of up and down lock flex/lock rock out of. It's annoying as hell. Especially for a knife that's supposed to be perfect. Anyone else have this problem, or is this just normal? Idk. It almost makes me want to stop buying them.

Do you all open/close your knives alot? I do. But still for a $400-$500 knife this shouldn't be an issue. I've had cheaper knives that were fine about that.

I've had about 12, seen many of my friends and have never seen what you mention.

My oldest is a 1999, and a few years ago it developed a slightly sticky lock. Sent it in, and it came back perfect, and came back looking like a brand new knife.

CRK has the best warranty in the buisness, and they proved it to me. If you ever have a problem send it in and they will make it right. If not, THEN post about your problem here.

I've owned many, many sebenzas. Not one had any up and down at all. I did own a VERY well used '90s era Seb that had the tiniest amount of side to side. The fact that you say you are 3/3 with lock rock sounds very strange. Anyhow, If you say you have a problem, send it into CRK, they will absolutely take care of you.

Is it actual blade play or just lock flex as they are not the same thing ? Lock flex is not seen as an issue that will cause the lock to fail through normal use and it can be found on pretty much every liner or frame lock to one extent or another. You can easily see it on the likes of an Umnumzaan, whith the knife opened and locked you can get the studs to just move off the frame showing what may look like play. It is only detectable visualy and is not movement that can be felt as there are still the same forces holding the blade in place. Actual blade play with be a back and forth movement on a particular plane that can be felt, seen and/or even heard as there are two surfaces being seperated and moved back together.

I currently own four CRKs...everything from a Small Sebenza to an Umnumzaan and they are all absolutely solid as a rock.

It's very slight. And you really have to try an get it on my classic, but you can feel the blade move, an hear a light ticking sound.

This poster started another thread on his XM-18 having lock-up problems. OP: you may be doing something to your knives that you shouldn't.

I have had 4 CRK's, none had any play in any direction. I don't use my knives as worry beads, but I may open and close them a few times everyday whether they're needed or not.

Agreed. I had two large 21's that I had the double thumb studs added. A month or so later there were small stress fractures from the lug to the spine of the blade. Called Heather at CRk and they overnighted them both there, replaced both blades, and returned them via next day air. Cost me a total of $0.00 and it took only three days till they were in my pocket again. They even gave me a T-shirt for the trouble. I have NEVER had ANY manufacturer of any product to to such great lengths to repair a product! This is why I never leave home without a sebenza.

I have also never had any lock problems. Is it possible the lock bar was over-extended thus lowering the locks tension and strength? Wrist flicking? Either way, I would shoot an email or call CRK. Probably a wise thing to do before you write them off. Just my 2 cents worth. Hope your lockup issues are solved.

I've had two regulars (both sold) and currently have 4 Sebenzas. All solid as a rock including my well used large Classic from 2005. I'm sure that it is an easy fix if you send it in like other have suggested.

Personally, I don't believe it. I looked at a lot of new and used sebenzas over 12 years before I bought one. Not one had any "up and down lock flex/rock".

I'm with you. There's a lot of this nonsense floating around the forums. None of it has any source or documentation to back it up, either.
