Below is a photo of my small Sebbie before reassembly so you can see how much/little lube is necessary (IMHO). Spin the bushiing in the blade to distribute the lube then reassemble the knife per factory instructions.

Do you have suggestions for lubrication the knife without disassembly? Work some oil in? work some grease in? Or is it just better to take it appart?

They are so easy (and fun) to take apart though. That, and it really is the best/most efficient way to do it.

I used too much at first, and it all just seeped out and got all over. It took some "training" to figure out the correct amount for me.

IMO it's best to take it apart, clean everything, lube it up (Chris Reeve Grease of course) then reassemble.

I usually clean the whole knife by spraying it with 409 or Windex then rinsing under warm water. For lubrication you don't have to take the whole knife down, just pull the pivot and remove the blade. And do be careful with reassembly -it is embarrassing to realize you have just carefully reassembled your knife with the blade facing the wrong way!

Never did that with a knife, but I have to admit, I put the chain on backwards on my chainsaw once.

You definitely don't have to disassemble to lubricate.
As fun as some think it may be, it's just not necessary.

I specifically asked CRK and they stated you do need to disassemble to properly clean and lubricate a sebenza. Without disassembly, you do not get grease into all the areas (e.g. pivot, bushing, etc.) which is necessary for both lubrication and protection from oxidation. For this reason, CRK said that they would be happy to clean and lubricate any sebenza for a nominal fee. The frequency of cleaning and lubrication is dependent upon how often you use your knife and how you use it. They suggest yearly if you use the knife every day in a moderate manner. I asked if you can clean your sebenza with hot water, soap and a toothbrush between lube/cleaning if needed. They said sure and recommended a blow dry :)
