Sebenza lubrication??!!?

I just received a small sebenza 21 and I love the feel, but I want to make it a little faster. What lubes will make it faster while still remaining as smooth as it is. I don't want to continue using grease as it seems to be too thick. I don't care about food safety, and I take my knives apart about twice a week so I don't care if it attracts dust.

Go look in the CRK forum, there's a couple of threads discussing different lubes on CRK's

if you did a search you would see a few threads already.

stick with the crk grease.

when you apply grease don't put too much on, that is probably your problem.

switching to an oil is just going to bring more problems, like attracting dust, gunking up, and excessively having to re lube, etc. avoid nano oil.

I use grease and mine flicks open like lightening and drops shut.

regardless of this, the sebenza is not known for fast action, its a smooth opener and you may never get the action you seek.

remember that lube is not there for action but to protect metal to metal contact better. too much lube will slow down action. a thin layer of lube you don't see is more than enough.

I use Breakfree to clean and lubricate my knives when I dont just flush with warm water. I rarely disassemble my folders.

There is this little shop on an island in the South Pacific....

Seriously though, if you don't like the hydraulic feel of the grease, just use whatever oil you like. CLP works pretty good on knives, but for that matter so does 3in1 oil.
best

The various Nano-Oil types work very well on Sebenza's when you want to make opening & closing the blade easier.
If however corrosion resistance is your main concern it's better to use Nano-Grease or the CRK factory grease instead, even though this will make the action a bit sluggish.

I use BreakFree CLP on my 21; a tiny drop each on side of the pivot works fine, and doesn't collect gunk. I haven't taken mine apart for about three or four years; after losing a screw soon after I got it (quickly replaced, CRK has great customer service) I put it back together with blue Loctite. I just clean it with warm soapy water whenever needed, dry and re-lube. This is a superb working knife, doesn't need babying.

If you do decide to go with the flourinated grease you can get a huge ammount of it for way cheaper at bicycle shops.

85 Weight Nano Oil is the best I've found for my Sebenzas.

I'm with Halden. The heavier weight Nano-oil seems to work *really* well on the Sebenza/Inkosi knives. I have had great luck with either the straight 85 weight, or cutting 1 drop of 10 weight into a drop of 85wt making a 48 (actually 47.5) weight.

The key is not too use too much or it will gunk up more than the grease as oil will migrate more. I put a drop of both (if doing the 48wt) on a plastic cap then mix with a toothpick. After that, I load up a fine paintbrush with the oil and apply to the blade/washer/pivot bushing, etc. Just a very light coat is all you need.

The grease works well and attracts less gunk, but there is definitely a difference in both feel and speed when compared to the Nano oil.
