It's been a while since I last handled a Sebenza but what I remember most was, as much as I loved the knife, I hated the thumb stud. :foot: (Don't kill me) :foot:

My question is: Has anyone replaced the thumb stud with something else? Seen it done?

Better yet, has anyone ever removed the lug and had the nerve to drill a hole?:eek::eek: The classic design seems particularly suited to this possibility.

Any input, information, and/or pictures would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have asked this question on BF before.

The answers seem to lean toward that there wont be enough room.

I hated the thumb stud when I handled others sebenzas at meet up (we have them quite often in parts of the UK) and had a sore thumb for a while after I first got my sebenza. After a while I got used to it and now it's as easy to use as any other. I've since got a matching large sebbie as well

I think theres enough room actually.

I have always had a great deal of respect for Syderco and their products. I simply find opening their knives with gloves difficult - which limits their utility for me.Having said that - their thumbhole open knives work better than almost everyone else's - including a lot of folks who make simply great stud opening knives. I have repeatedly picked up other folks homage to Sydeco products and found that they simply were awkward-clumsy to thumb open - this seems to never be the case with Syderco.
I think getting the ergonomics of a thumbhole opening knife down may look like substitute a hole for a stud and you 're done - got a feeling there is abit more to it.
Having said that -I'm still really curious as to how this might work out?

Wow I think this is the first I have ever seen Spyderco is spelled wrong three times and with two different kinds of spelling:D.

I do agree though Spyderco is the way to Go when it comes to the round hole/control

Leave the thumb stud the way it is. :grumpy:
Give yourself some practice (remember to push the stud straight up rather than out), and give the knife some carry time to smooth the ridges, and soon you'll love it.

You should be able to punch the thumbstud out and replace it with your own. If you were clever you could probably make an add on hole that fit above or on top using the existing thumb stud hole.

I tried to find someone who would do that a couple of years ago and failed in finding anyone interseted in making it.

Somewhere on this forum I posted a photo of my Sebenza . I filed the stud shorter [easy job] so it no longer was irritating to my thumb and didn't catch on my key ring in my pocket.
