Just pick up my first Sebenza, a Small Classic with the BG42 polished blade. Excellent fit and finish! I think this will definitely become my EDC.

My question is,I noticed the letter D and 00 on the inside of the frame. Is this the year the knife was made?

My understanding is that those codes are just an internal batch number used during the manufacturing process - not a date code.

I've got a small Seb that I got in February '02, and it's marked A02. My understanding from fellow forumites was that A, B, C, and D signified annual production quarters, followed by the last two year digits:

A: January, February, March
B: April, May, June
C: July, August, September
D: October, November, December,

Followed by 99 (1999), 00 (2000), 01 (2001), and so on...

Is this a misconception? I'd like to know too!

Thanks.

Professor.

The numbers indicate when the scales were made but not necessarily when the knife was made. I didn't know about the lettering indicating annual production quaters, that would certainly make sense.

Hmm... Got my new Sebenza on June 25th. Certificate says it was born on June 24th. The handle says B 01. The B would fit, but not the O1.

The mystery continues....
