Looong before Sebenza there was an Opinel. Simple construction, reliable lock, great cutting abilities, good reputation and decent steel. Opinel, Sebenza of yesterday for me. Of course time changes our tools... now it's Ti & S30V. But I still like them both, as you can see:

Opinel: Simpe yes, cuts well yes, reliable? No not IMO. Humidity changes makes the knife blade either tight or loose loose in the handle.

OK, maybe I've expresssed it not precisely enough... I mean it was realiable for it's days, so about a century ago, way before any modern locks :D

I believe Chris made an opinel type locking folder , I recall seeing pics of one a year or two ago....

was a very nice looking blade!

Maybe someone can do a search and locate it.

That was the Helix Lock. I think it was similar to the Opinel style, but had some differences too. The manufacturing was certainly much more refined.;)

Nice pic, Piter!

Today, I just happen to be carrying an Opinel #7 with a carbon steel blade and a large, decorated, Regular Sebenza. :) They're obviously not in the same class, but they're both great knives even though they're very different from each other.

The Douk-Douk is another past Sebenza. Still a Opinels and Douks are still such respected knives.
