Hi all,

I've recently recieved my first sebenza. It was born in 2008 and I received it NIB. I've noticed a very slight grind noise when I open the blade. I've tried lubricating around the pivot with the knife still assembled, but that doesn't seem to help the noise. Is the noise normal due to the close tolerences, or should I try to dissassemble and clean/ lubricate immediately?

Thanks in advance

Put a dab of lube on the ceramic ball detent. That is what makes the grindy noise.

Definately Disassemble & Clean. That will fix it. It will be as smooth as butter afterwards. Because of the Very Tight Tolerances, the lube will not "work" its way in. It must be taken apart and lubed. There is excellent step-by-step instructions here on bladeforums in the sticky....

Update:

I've taken apart my sebenza, cleaned everything, and lubed the pivot washers and the detent. Put it back together but still get the noise on the open. Keep in mind that I do have to put the knife to my ear to the knife to hear it, it is a very slight scraping noise. But the opening is still smooth regardless. I'm going to chalk this up to tolerences. I don't think that it is a critical issue.

I suppose it's hard to say without actually hearing it. it does make a metal rubbing against each other noise if you hold it to your ear, but it's silent when I'm holding mine in front of me.

Don't sweat it, just enjoy the knife.
