Sebenza or Umnumzaan....

I was hoping you guys could help me decide between a Classic 21($410) or an Umnumzaan($400) that I'm looking at here at a gun show. Being that I do have a Large Regular, I was thinking the Umnum, but the pivot is very stiff(just needs lube?). But the Classic Seb feels real good in hand too.

Any opinions, input, are appreciated. TIA

The Umnumzaan is a great knife--was my EDC for the past 7 months. The top edge is sharpish--careful with that. The action on mine was...and is...quite smooth. CRK makes a kit to take 'em down and clean 'em. The Seb is still my favorite.

I love the Sebenza and since I already have a Large Regular, I'm going to go with the Zaan. Thanks for the input and I will just see about lubing the pivot to break it in.

Don't let the stiffness deter you from getting the Zaan. I've had 3 and they all break in to a buttery smooth opening.

I'm not sure what the Umnumzaan brings to the table that the Sebenza doesn't. I think it boils down to which you prefer. Maybe get both then you can chose which you want to carry on a given day.

I don't own an Umnumzaan but I'm sure I will buy one someday. I have been very close to buying one a time or two but always end up buying another Sebenza and lately the Mnandi has been drawing my interest.

Get an Umnumzaan... I absolutely love mine... I want to get a Sebenza eventually, but for EDC, the Umnumzaan is the best knife I have come across.

I replaced the stock lanyard with a box stitched one that I made, and it totally kicks ass! Its literally in my pocket right now.. The pivot is brilliant IMO... you can set it to whatever tension you like, and lock it in with a bit of lock tite... it is sooo buttery smooth to open. I also strongly recommend getting the take down kit, and some flourinated grease, as nothing beats it for lubrication on these blades... (I used 3 in 1 oil in he past which is also nice, but the flourinated grease is the tits)

Cheers!

EDIT: If the pivot is too tight, dont lube it up more, there is plenty already. Just back off the pivot screw a bit until its where you want it. Make sure to put a bit of locktite in there before you set it, and once you get it to the right tension, let it sit for an hour so the locktite sets...

I had originally planned on picking up a 12 gauge but couldn't pass up on the Zaan. ;)

I had hoped on finding one but all they had were three CRK folders--a Small Classic 21, a Large Classic 21 and the Zaan.

Needless to say, I am not disappointed at all with my choice. :D

There are retailers online that have Insingos in stock.

Glad you got the Umnum, I think you made the right choice. As to the stiff pivot, keep in mind they're adjustable, unlike the pivot bushing on Sebenzas/Insingos.

Personally, the Umnum & Insingo are my 2 favorites & what I typically rotate between.
