Ok so I've had my sebenza now for one week and all I can do is wipe it off with the cloth it came with.I really want to start carrying and using it for everyday tasks but I think its going to take a while.I think I'll feel better if people can post pic's of them using there sebenza and for me at least will be very entertaining. Thanks

I understand this. My small Sebbie Classic gets carried and used quite a bit, but my large snakewood Classic
doesn't get a lot of pocket time. Why? It's just too damn gorgeous to beat up. I know all about the "spa
treatments" and such but I just can't scratch the thing up. Doesn't matter, I love it anyway...

The day I bought my first Sebenza I was opening and closing it in my truck on the way home. If this has happened to you, you know where I'm going with this. I get out with the knife on my lap...

I just got my 3rd Sebenza for my birthday yesterday, a large lefty 21 that I carried to my construction job today. I carry a mini cr2 in my left pocket for work everyday not use to having a knife clipped there so now we got scuffs all over the front side pivot area. Sweet. Make it yours.

the first scratch is always the hardest. just start using it :) . bear in mind you can always have it refinished.

Exactly. They can make them basically look new unless they're really deep scratches. The scuffing makes them look better anyway, IMO, and it would be a crime not to enjoy the cutting performance by letting it sit and look pretty. Save that spot for a Damascus grail. ;)

there's a thread specifically of people using their sebs for every task.

It's like standing on that high platform standing over the water, you just have to take the plunge. While these are expensive knives, they're meant to be used and they'll last a lifetime. Enjoy it :)

Do a search for 'what did you use your sebenza for today' I have posted a few pictures as well as others how we use them.

Ha Ha,
I had the same kinda thing happen to me with my first one. Fell asleep with it in bed, a few hours later I rolled over and the knife fell a good 3-4 feet onto the tile below.

If I'm gonna be spending this kinda money on a tool, you can bet your butt I'm gonna use it and get my money's worth out of it.

Plus I like them with a been there done that look to them.

"What did you use your sebenza for today"........Awesome Thread ;) I hear ya, the first scratch is always the hardest. By Not using a sebenza, your missing out on a great experience. Wether it be large or small, regular or classic/21.........Just Use it and enjoy it. If it was a vintage H Sebenza or even a P sebenza, you might wanna keep them nice because they are so rare and buy a newer one. Safe queen a damascus/mammoth combo if you like. But other than that, Use It and Enjoy It. I use my BG-42 just like I use my S30V and just like I plan to use my S35VN. Heck, I wanna spirograph damascus sebenza just to edc because I Love the performance of the DT SS Damascus.......I just got a large regular double stud eyes cgg and plan on using it. It is prestine, but what the heck. The posters above are correct, they do look better scuffed up. There is a reason you hear often " a sebenza is the folder which all others are judged by ". Use it and enjoy it, you will be glad you did.

There are a few reviews for the Umnum and the Sebenza on Youtube showing use - Ankerson, Solos Knife Reviews, and I believe Gundude73 are just a few.

I threw in the Umnumzaan cause it's right up there with the Sebenza as far as price is concerned.

I won't own a knife I won't use. I have recently been carrying a large Sebenza with bloodwood inserts and was just using it the other day while doing some exterior painting to cut out some old caulk around one of my windows.

Unless a knife has some priceless historical value or is inset with precious gems and metals - I say use it. Any damage can be repaired.

I'm willing to bet your car, truck or motorcycle costs many times more than the Sebenza and it is used every day!!

use it use it....... and you will appreciate it more. I love the used look of my Sebenza and Umnumzaan.

The first thing I do when I get another Sebbie in the mail is look for scrateches. If I can't find at least one I find the nearest rock and put on there. Gets that problem out of the way and lets me get down to using it.

I buy all of my Sebs used. I save a lot of money and they are already scratched therefore the first scratch problem is already solved! ;)

I bet it's already scratched. Jut take the pocket clip off and I guarantee there is a scratch there. This helped me get to using my CRK's.

Two great ideas, I especially like LoneWolfe's: scratch it yourself on purpose asap and then get on with using it.

I might have to try that

My brand new small insingo went straight into my pocket with my keys. It only took about a day and it already had some scuffs. My new large Insingo still looks new but I just used it to cut through two acorn squashes. Even my custom kitchen knives had trouble. Every single Chris Reeve knives I own are put to hard work right away. I think they look so much better with a worn-in look. That is probably why I don't have a decorated version that I need to keep pretty looking.
