I just received my Sebenza and its very stiff. I have read all the post's about dis-assembly and re-lube etc, polishing shims and what not... So i took it apart and re-lubed it (did NOT polish shims).
Heres the problem: when I tighten the pivot screw it becomes way to stiff and if I just tighten it ever so lightly after its open/closed a bunch of times the screw becomes loose... I cant seem to find the "sweet spot" and its getting frustrating.
Any suggestions?

WOW I dont know what just happened but i tighten the screw down good and opened/closed the knife numerous times and i just started to loosen up... this is WITH the pivot screw tight. I cant beleive how smooth and loose it is now... WOW thats all i can say WOW!

What usually occurs with those is the washer on one side that is supposed to fit around the bushing sometimes wedges up on top of it instead of where it belongs. This can lead to stiff action. What it sounds like is that the rotation action of the blade maybe moved the washer as the blade moved under it and caused the washer to seat correctly down around the bushing where it belongs freeing things up for you. You really have to watch when putting those back together to make sure that the washer stays down around the bushing when you put the non lock side slab handle back down over it. If you tilt the handle too much there is very little of that bushing holding the washers in place and they can move on you and end up sitting on the bushing instead of where they belong which is seated down around it.

the sebenza has a bushing as you are aware, and needs no pivot adjustment, tighten it and forget. as long as the washers are installed properly you should be good to go by just tightening it up.

I had a similar problem with my first small sebenza, a vines graphic. I bought it preowned. I am thinking the previous owner took it apart and did not put it together properly because I had the exact opposite problem. The small sebenza opened up like an automatic with the slightest flick of the blade. I would release the lock and the blade would swing over halfway closed on its own when closing. The blade also was not centered and the handle looked twisted. I never had taken a sebenza apart at the time, so I was reluctant. After finally deciding to take it apart, what I saw is what was describe exactly by STR. The bushing instead of being properly placed around the blade pivot was riding up on the blade pivot hence causing the auto like action, blade being out of center and the handle twisted look. After assembling it correctly, it opens and closes as it should and just like my large regular. Everything lined up great as it should. I did send it to CRK though along with my large regular to be engraved as I believe the bronze bushing may have been damaged because of the improper alignment as it had a deep groove in the bushing. I cant wait to her her back.....

Yep, you just need to use it! I had the same problem with mine and after opening and closing it a bunch of times it loosened up. It just come with use. Besides, the Sebenza's are made to be used, so get out there and cut something!:D
