I want to know, with the already high price of the Sebenzas, what do you think of dealers who sell them for MORE than full retail?
I also wonder what CRK thinks about their dealers raising the price over their set price.
It doesn't sound right to me?

What do I think of them? Supply and demand. They have a perfect right to overcharge. And I have a perfect right not to buy a Sebenza or anything else from them.
Legally, at least in Canada, the seller can't be told what to sell for as a means of controlling the price artificially, and we took our law from the USA model. I don't know why CRK would be upset by dealers selling for a higher price, as long as CRK also sells direct:usually the concern is for selling at too low a price.

Hmmmmm, good question. I guess I'd just buy from someone else. This would also make me not want to do business with that dealer in the future, regardless of whose knives they sold.

Give Dennis Wright a call at Wright Knives on 1-800-400-1980.
Dennis does not upcharge and has one of the best "in stock" selections of Chris Reeve's full line including accessories.

The only CRK products I have seen for sale with a mark up have been the Wood Inlay Sebenzas and rare pieces like the Gold Coin models. Considering the collectability of these items, I guess it is a “whatever the market will bear” situation.

Actually John, I posted this thread because of Dennis Wright, who posted:

"My Decorated Sebenzas go fo $450.00 large and $415.00 small, shipping included. If you don't want to pay the price then, by all means, go somewhere else, please..."

He posted this 2/16 in the Chris Reeve Forum to the thread "If you are looking to buy a Sebenza."

Rick,
My error - I thought you were referring to Sebenzas in general (exclusive of decorated, jeweled, etc).

stjames, I agree for the most part... I maybe be wrong here (so please correct me), but I think I heard that there are some dealers of the gold coin list. You know that those people on the list have the right to buy the next years gold coin Sebenza. This is obviously done for collectors, but I just wonder if the dealers just add a few hunder $ to the price and sell them off. That I definitely don't aprove. The system is supposed to be that if you don't want the knife anymore you'll give your place to somebody else. If I remember correctly the price of gold coin Sebenza was around $670 - sell less than $700 anyways. I've seen two them sold for about $950 at one dealer. Both with the same serial. So makes me think that they just got on the list to make great profit and not to collect the knives.

With any other Sebenza the situation is a bit different... as you can always get them from CRK directly but you'll just have to wait.

Hugo.

Immediate delivery has value. I suppose Sebenza prices would be "right" if they were high enough that CRK would usually have at least one of anything in stock on any given day, but not many of them.

And there are some up-market options where there isn't a lot of margin between "retail" and "dealer" prices, so it should be no surprise if a lot of dealers charge a little extra for having them on hand.
