Sebenza Question

I've been looking at the Chris Reeve Sebenza 25 lately. The website isn't helping me much on my questions, but I'm sure somebody here can, before I email them.

Is there an option to get serrations added to the knife?

I know most people don't like serrations, but I use them, a lot, one EDC knives, and find plain edge knives to be rather useless to me on a daily basis.

I really like the clean, plain look of the Sebenza, and from all I see about them, they sound like great knives.

Hummm Good question! I know that they are an option on the other Sebenzas, but I have never seen or heard of them on a 25. I must admitt that they are pretty scarce on any CRKs, but the CRK version of serrations are very good. If you like serrations, I think you will really like CRK's concept.

I will bet that you will have to order the knife direct from CRK as probably no dealers will stock them with serrations. Generally serrations cost a few bucks more but its a small fee relative to the package. Please contact CRK and report back wih your findings and photos;)

You can order a sebenza with serrations, but cannot add them to a knife you already have. Here is the link to the crk page with more information:http://chrisreeve.com/FAQs
It would probably not be too difficult to find an aftermarket solution, I would check with some of the members in the services offered section.

If you find a plain edge useless, you either need to learn how to sharpen properly, or the job you are doing is better suited for a saw and not a knife. A plain edge being useless means all standard model pocket knives would be useless to you, and the thought of that is just absurd to me. No offense intended, and serrations can be very useful, but to call a plain edge useless is just backwards IMO.

To answer your question, I'm not sure that CRK will add serrations but they do produce serrated models (have in the past at least). You'd do well to call them instead of email, as you will get a prompt response. The 25 looks great, I hope you find what you're looking for!

edit: well there you have it above! Thanks to Ernie1980

You can order a Sebenza directly from CRK with serrations, but they cannot be added to an existing knife. I have seen this option on the 21 and regular ( when it was in production ), but have not seen them on a 25 as of yet. Your best bet would be to call CRK on Monday to find out.

Thanks guys! Looks like I found my next knife!

Zeta33, I guess I should have used a different term, maybe "not as useful"? I cut a lot of rope and cord at work, and on my boat, I find the serrations work better for that. Also, I come across a lot of other small tasks around the house that it just works better. Yes, I could go find a saw or something, but this is in my pocket, and will get it done, if serrated. Example: I was putting up the Christmas tree and needed a small, half inch or so, branch cut off that was interfering with the tree stand, I simply pulled out my knife and sawed it off, quickly.

I fully understand your need for them! When I worked in a warehouse in my late teens, I needed serrations too and kept a few combo-edge blades in my work rotation. I sincerely meant the "no offense" part btw, you obviously have very fine taste in knives. The argumentative plain edge snob in me just needed to defend the plain edges, lol. Have you considered getting the micarta inlay 25, or are you set on the plain 25 + serrations? Can't go wrong with either.

Zeta, no offense taken, everybody has their own opinions and what works best for them. I've watched a few YouTube videos now and I think I'm pretty set on the plain 25, with serrations. I really like the look of the plain handles. From what I've seen, the 25 looks a little "tuffer" than the 21. I don't know if it's just because I'm using my phone, but I can't seem to get the CRK website to telle much at all. I'm not sure on all the options for the two, nor all the differences, but looking at pictures, I love the plain 25. I like big knives, so it fits. I've yet to see one in person, but will try to find a dealer around here before I buy, just to compare.

You can probably answer a lot of your questions by reading, searching and asking questions here....but seeing and handling them in person is MUCH faster and reliable (if you have such a luxury).

Both the 25 and the 21 are great pieces and I'd argue that no amount of sensible use will damage either one. The trend is thicker, heavier and flatter grinds. The 25 answers this call in a manner that is true to CRK and their endeavors to make a good piece of cutlery and not just an answer to the request for the flavor of the month.

I am not a fan of serrations typically, but I will admit that I do like CRKs serrations, and I sort of enjoy the exclusivity that they have (they are not trendy right now, so you may have a knife that perhaps no one here has seen yet if you get a 25 with serrations)
