From what I've read - the tightness of the pivot screw shouldn't matter (because of the bushing I think). We'll it sure does for mine. The tighter the pivot screw the harder the draw. I have to keep it slightly tighter than loose for good action. (And no - I have no pinched washers)
Any thoughts or advice? Or was what I read simply wrong?
Thanks in advance.

The bushing should act as a "stop" and not allow it to get too tight & inhibit blade mvmt.
Are you really bearing down on that screw?
Have you or anyone else taken it apart and reassembled it?

No - no where near cranking down on screw. It was like this when I got it. I have meticulously/very carefully taken it apart for general cleaning/to see if I could figure out the problem... no such luck. (It's really not that big of a deal as it's very easy to find the sweet spot on the tension)

Put this in the CRK forum and you will get the best help.
1st this is a 21 correct
some need to be broken in more than others, but it very well may be just break in.
I personally have little experience with this problem. I buy most of mine off the exchange post break in, but the subject has been covered before on CRK forum, so a search might give you all the answers you need.

Even the smallest amount of error in reassembly can hinder the action and lockup on a Sebenza; I've dealt with it before. Keep dis/reassembling it until you get it perfect. Bushing systems are the best in my opinion, but the worst at the same time. Check out the video by theApostleP on YT. When I got my first Sebenza his videos on CRK maintenance taught me a plethora. Good luck, and yep, the CRK subforum will answer all your questions...probably.

I would agree about having this moved to the CRK sub.

I have a large 21, and I have not had this issue, so I cannot weigh in with personal experience. Though I have read about pinched washers, but it seems like you have negated that as a possibility.

Good luck, and sorry I couldn't be of further help.

Thanks, guys - yeah - it's a 21 and it's real. Broken in too. This really is more of a curiosity issue than a problem as I love the knife, and like I said - I can get the action perfect by tweaking the tension. I check it once per month or so.. but yeah - maybe time for another disassembly/ cleaning anyway..

im glad i read this i just got a small 21 used and love it but it seemed tight well i took it apart cleaned it and still tight. so i took this advice and after a few times its smooth as butter thanks

If this knife is a CRK, it is likely that it is assembled incorrectly.. (washer out of place) You may need to send it in if you are not comfortable with disassembly for inspection.

The first time I took apart my Sebenza I put it back together with one minor mistake that made a big difference. One of the washers was on top of the female pivot screw and I didn't notice at first. The blade was far from centered opened funny (I forget if it was easier or more difference). I took it apart and noticed the problem and it's been fine ever since.

It does happen. I have quite a few Sebenzas and one of them - an older, small Regular that I bought new - gets extremely stiff if the pivot is tightened to what I'd consider normal levels. It's *not* an assembly problem. I could send it back but it doesn't bother me enough. If it is an issue for you, please DO send it back - DON'T try to thin the pivot yourself. The easiest fix, which is what I assume CRK would do, is to fit slightly thicker washers.
